This book moved me to my very core’ Celeste Ng, author of Little Fires Everywhere Finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography Named a Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post, NPR, Time, The Boston Globe, Real Simple, Buzzfeed, Jezebel and Bustle Growing up in a sheltered Oregon town, Nicole Chung was the only Korean she knew. Taunted in the playground, and constantly reminded that she was different, she dreamt of one day looking in the mirror and feeling as thought she belonged. The story her mother told her about her birth parents was always the same: they had made the ultimate sacrifice in the hopes of giving her a better life. But years later, grown up and expecting a child of her own, Nicole begins to wonder if her mother’s story is the whole truth. As she embarks on a search for the people who gave her up, she discovers that the deeper she digs, the darker and more surprising the truth. Heart-rending yet endlessly hopeful, All You Can Ever Know is a compelling memoir about adoption, race, and how it feels to lose your roots – and then find them in the least expected of places.

A READ WITH JENNA TODAY SHOW BOOK CLUB PICK! One of Entertainment Weekly's 15 Books you Need to Read This June | One of The NY Post's Best Summer Reading books | One of GMA's 27 Books for June | One of USA Today's 5 Books Not to Miss | One of Fortune's 21 Most Anticipated Books Coming out in the Second Half of 2021 An astounding work of fiction from a New York Times bestselling author Jason Mott, always deeply honest, at times electrically funny, that goes to the heart of racism, police violence, and the hidden costs exacted upon Black Americans, and America as a whole In Jason Mott’s Hell of a Book, a Black author sets out on a cross-country publicity tour to promote his bestselling novel. That storyline drives Hell of a Book and is the scaffolding of something much larger and urgent: since Mott’s novel also tells the story of Soot, a young Black boy living in a rural town in the recent past, and The Kid, a possibly imaginary child who appears to the author on his tour. As these characters’ stories build and build and converge, they astonish. For while this heartbreaking and magical book entertains and is at once about family, love of parents and children, art and money, it’s also about the nation’s reckoning with a tragic police shooting playing over and over again on the news. And with what it can mean to be Black in America. Who has been killed? Who is The Kid? Will the author finish his book tour, and what kind of world will he leave behind? Unforgettably told, with characters who burn into your mind and an electrifying plot ideal for book club discussion, Hell of a Book is the novel Mott has been writing in his head for the last ten years. And in its final twists it truly becomes its title.

For five years, life goes on like this, but it all changes one day when a priest knocks on Tom's door. He's rebuilding an old church in town and wants Tom's help. At first, Tom is not interested, but after a confrontation with the town sheriff, Tom decides to get involved with the priest after all. Initially, only wanting to use the priest for information about the sheriff, Tom gradually begins to find himself truly caring about the priest's mission and begins to find a renewed faith in God. But Tom's problems are far from over because the sheriff is still after him, and it seems no one in town will stand up to him. Tom suspects the sheriff is hiding something but doesn't know how to uncover it. Not until a man who left town many years earlier returns and offers to help Tom. Tom isn't sure if he can trust his new friend, but what choice does he have? Slowly, Tom learns how each character's past is connected and tragic, just like his. But can he do it, or will a corrupt sheriff and Tom's own demons destroy him, and the rest of the town with him?

The present framing of the cultural debate in terms of materialism versus religion has allowed materialism to go unchallenged as the only rationally-viable metaphysics. This book seeks to change this. It uncovers the absurd implications of materialism and then, uniquely, presents a hard-nosed non-materialist metaphysics substantiated by skepticism, hard empirical evidence, and clear logical argumentation. It lays out a coherent framework upon which one can interpret and make sense of every natural phenomenon and physical law, as well as the modalities of human consciousness, without materialist assumptions. According to this framework, the brain is merely the image of a self-localization process of mind, analogously to how a whirlpool is the image of a self-localization process of water. The brain doesn't generate mind in the same way that a whirlpool doesn't generate water. It is the brain that is in mind, not mind in the brain. Physical death is merely a de-clenching of awareness. The book closes with a series of educated speculations regarding the afterlife, psychic phenomena, and other related subjects.

“In a small patch of woodland Deep in the green trees ... Is the place Where the fairies paint the sky” With these opening lines, first-time author Darcy L. B. Harnadek paints the picture of a young girl enraptured by the story that inspired this original collection of poetry. In song, spoken word, free verse poetry and classic forms like terza rima and haiku, Where the Fairies Paint the Sky recreates images from the author’s insights and experiences: a tree strung with wind chimes, a mother from the past weaving her own poetry, a family gathered on the beach in the wind and rain to scatter a grandfather’s ashes. The reader will encounter topics ranging from wartime and broken hearts to hope and renewal, from the wonder in everyday life to worlds of angels, demons and beauty. The poems are deep and dark, lovely and gentle, thought-provoking and beautifully simple, each ready to offer a message or rekindle a memory.

THE WORLD OF MEN, WITH ALL ITS CONCEPTS AND BELIEFS, WAS STRANGE AND A COMPLETE MYSTERY TO THE BOY. He understood the real world around him, which was simple because the world told him everything he needed to know about it. The grass grew because it drank the water that fell from the sky and the water fell from the sky because the grass couldnt walk to a river like he could, it was all so simple. In return for their life the plants blanketed the earth making everything lush and beautiful, thus pleasing creation. Animals grazed for a lifetime and when they died, they fed the grass. Everything was alive and had everything it needed to be alive; creation wanted life, loved life and nurtured it dearly. There was no need to fight to survive, all life was a gift and all life helped each other to live, and did so without any conflict only natural balance.

Four years after the publication of Wittgenstein's Investigations, Rush Rhees began writing critical reflections on the masterpiece he had helped to edit. In this edited collection of his previously unpublished writings, he develops Wittgenstein's notion that to imagine a language is to imagine a form of life, without suggesting that we are all engaged in an all-inclusive conversation. The result is not only a major contribution to Wittgenstein scholarship, but an original discussion of central philosophical questions concerning the possibility of discourse.

Are You Considering Therapy? is a guidebook for people who are thinking about going into therapy but aren't quite sure where to start. It will look at the various aspects of choosing a therapist, from sorting through the numerous types of treatment on offer, to deciding whether an individual practitioner is someone you might want to work with. The book will not only explain the differences between a psychiatrist, a psychotherapist and a psychologist, say, but will also give people some sense of the sorts of things that might happen in a session - as well as looking at the many and varied notions of 'cure'. For example, while a behavioural counsellor might make it their mission to rid you of your symptom as quickly as possible, a Lacanian psychoanalyst may consider it their ethical duty to see you through an experience of subjective destitution. (The book would also explain what on earth this means.) Are You Considering Therapy? will aim to treat all therapies equally, and to allow readers to make their own choices about what might suit them.

The truth is, the Cold War didn't end. The truth is, freedom is a lie. Even today, a handful of men and women control the destinies of civilizations and cultures. Jake Grant was one of those men, a soldier in service to truth, an inside witness to the geopolitical transformation of the world. In this darkly philosophical tale of espionage, Jake Grant recounts his life as an assassin in the decade leading up to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the shift in world power. Jake reveals the foundation of a plot, formulated in the 1970s, to engineer the destruction of the Soviet Union, and the struggle of his partner, Stewart Hunt, to stop it. Twisted together through nearly half a century of lies are the lives and loves of the men and women who worked, suffered and died for a fabricated secret cause founded on one man's personal vendetta. Getting to the truth means getting to know Jake. Knowing Jake means confronting the face of a psychopath, assassin and liar.
