This book scrutinises the realm of safety-security involving ‘nuclear power’ within the context of India’s tryst with nuclear energy. Relying on open source information, it examines the efficacy of the safety-security arrangement in and around India’s nuclear installations, keeping in mind the international best practices. As India has embarked on a civil nuclear expansion programme, the public concern for safety and security of nuclear facilities and material is obvious, especially in the backdrop of terrorist incidents and the Fukushima disaster. This poses a serious challenge to garnering greater domestic support for new nuclear projects with international collaborations. Here an attempt is made to examine the issues involving social acceptance of nuclear energy, safe disposal of nuclear waste, regulatory practices, and likely challenges ahead for India, to propose a new nuclear safety-security paradigm by looking beyond the usual ‘defence by design’ or ‘defence in-depth’ practice. Please note: Taylor & Francis does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

The time has come in which graphic designers are playing an important role in rendering ever more complicated information transparent and understandable for a wider audience. To stress this urgency, Renate Boere dove head first in the world of project management lingo, confidentiality statements, copyright, complicated rights contracts, the search for stakeholders and grand applications. This journey has resulted in the journalistic novel Beyond Design. This designer's novel provides insights into the contemporary, often hybrid, practice of the multi-talented graphic designers. The story tells how Boere decides to take matters into her own hands by working on socially relevant design projects. An exciting and informative book that gives insights into the designer's do's and don'ts while working on projects from start to finish.

"This book is a thoughtful and practical guide on how to design for experience. A must-read for anyone curious about how to create something that truly delights!"Liam Gilligan - Head of eXellerator Lab at Standard Chartered Bank"Gianluca's book inspires the readers with his Business Design framework that places design and business on equal footing. In the complicated world, we live today where business searches for purpose, consumers yearn for experience, and creators strive for excellence, this is an essential read."Michael Tam - Chief Creative Catalyst at IBM iX"Thoughtful and necessary, Business Beyond Design is an inspiring book for all of those looking for new approaches on the realm of Business and Design. It's cleverly written and introduces a fresh model to help evaluate and measure relevant brands and business."Carla Almeida - Design Director at Prophet"Inspiring yet practical; a holistic framework that gives you insights of how to design and build a sustainable brand, product or life."Klas Hesselman - Innovation & Design at Visa About the Book: Business Beyond Design was born from the desire to share a different point of view, to illustrate a road map and to trigger the thinking process towards the creation of valuable, sustainable and innovative design businesses. Good design might boost sales, but Business Design builds culture, and that is what Business Beyond Design is about: creating, preserving, and innovating businesses through design. Historically a business is IMPLEMENTED not really DESIGNED. The main difference from something that is implemented vs. something that is designed is the outcome. When something is implemented the outcome is known. When something is designed the outcome is unknown, and the design process leads you to the solution. In the modern world, most of the outcomes are unknown, so the logical way (would dare to say the only way) is to design our way towards that unknown. "Business Is implemented; Design is Discovered"This book records the journey of how the author researched and developed a new Business Design framework. Covering topics like- Distinguish between image and identity, The Beauty of Sustainable Failure, The Dark Side of Design, this book will act as an invaluable resource for designers, creatives and entrepreneurs alike. With practical tools and a hands-on approach, the author offers a fresh new look at how to Think Strategically, Foster Creativity and Transform Businesses.

I In this volume, the author demystifies the Design of Experiments (DOE). He begins with a clear explanation of the traditional experimentation process. He then covers the concept of variation and the importance of experimentation and follows through with applications. Stamatis also discusses full and fractional factorials. The strength of this volume lies in the fact that not only does it introduce the concept of robustness, it also addresses "Robust Designs" with discussions on the Taguchi methodology of experimentation. And throughout the author ties these concepts into the Six Sigma philosophy and shows readers how they use those concepts in their organizations.

Design History Beyond the Canon subverts hierarchies of taste which have dominated traditional narratives of design history. The book explores a diverse selection of objects, spaces and media, ranging from high design to mass-produced and mass-marketed objects, as well as counter-cultural and sub-cultural material. The authors' research highlights the often marginalised role of gender and racial identity in the production and consumption of design, the politics which underpins design practice and the role of designed objects as pathways of nostalgia and cultural memory. While focused primarily on North American examples from the early 20th century onwards, this collection also features essays examining European and Soviet design history, as well as the influence of Asia and Africa on Western design practice. The book is organised in three thematic sections: Consumers, Intermediaries and Designers. The first section analyses a range of designed objects and spaces through the experiences and perspectives of users. The second section considers intermediaries from both technology and cultural industries, as well as the hidden labour within the design process itself. The final section focuses on designers from multiple design disciplines including high fashion, industrial design, interior design, graphic design and design history pedagogy. The essays in all three sections utilise different research methods and a wide range of theoretical approaches, including feminist theory, critical race theory, spatial theory, material culture studies, science and technology studies and art history. Design History Beyond the Canon brings together the most recent research which stretches beyond the traditional canon and looks to interdisciplinary methodologies to better understand the practice and consumption of design.
