Why is your brother-in-law concerned about the Estate Tax? Why do millionaire news reporters get everything wrong? Why are blood-sucking teachers bankrupting America? Jimmy Dore, the comedy darling of America's Progressive Left, answers all these questions and more! In this laugh-out-loud collection of essays that are both street-smart and informed, Jimmy sets out to discover what's wrong. Crackling with caustic wit and insight, no aspect of American life is safe from Jimmy's hilarious scrutiny. He gets to the heart of the issues: why Republicans should support gay marriage or why the President shouldn't have Secret Security until the country has gun control, bringing clarity and hilarity to the incoherent noise of our punditocracy. This outrageously entertaining manifesto is an excellent resource for those who have survived long arguments during family dinners. And in a media environment dominated by corporate interests, Jimmy's take-no-prisoners approach is fearless: going after both political parties, and all corners of mainstream news. A David against an army of Goliaths. Equal measures of silliness and spleen-venting, Your Country Is Just Not That Into You is the most oddly uplifting political book of the year.

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2018 ONE OF THE ECONOMIST'S BOOKS OF THE YEAR "My new favorite book of all time." --Bill Gates If you think the world is coming to an end, think again: people are living longer, healthier, freer, and happier lives, and while our problems are formidable, the solutions lie in the Enlightenment ideal of using reason and science. Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? In this elegant assessment of the human condition in the third millennium, cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, which play to our psychological biases. Instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise, not just in the West, but worldwide. This progress is not the result of some cosmic force. It is a gift of the Enlightenment: the conviction that reason and science can enhance human flourishing. Far from being a naïve hope, the Enlightenment, we now know, has worked. But more than ever, it needs a vigorous defense. The Enlightenment project swims against currents of human nature--tribalism, authoritarianism, demonization, magical thinking--which demagogues are all too willing to exploit. Many commentators, committed to political, religious, or romantic ideologies, fight a rearguard action against it. The result is a corrosive fatalism and a willingness to wreck the precious institutions of liberal democracy and global cooperation. With intellectual depth and literary flair, Enlightenment Now makes the case for reason, science, and humanism: the ideals we need to confront our problems and continue our progress.

This timely book is a sequel to John Grant’s Green Marketing Manifesto which was the award winning and bestselling definitive guide to green marketing (and not greenwashing) in the previous wave of eco marketing in 2007. In 2019, climate change is right back at the top of the public agenda. Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion are front page news. The UK, EU and other governments have declared a climate emergency. 181 CEOs of American companies - including Walmart, Amazon and Apple - signed a Business Round Table declaration saying that the purpose of corporations is not just to make money for shareholders, but to improve society, care for the environment and be ethical. Unilever CEO Alan Jope says they will dispose of brands that don’t have a bigger purpose. Concerns like ocean plastic (the ‘Blue Planet effect’) have upped the pace of change. With ambitious responses such as refills stations, unpackaged goods, super-materials from wood fibre and seaweed and a new ‘milkman for groceries’ reusable packaging service called Loop. Sustainable brands are now outperforming others in most markets. Eco challenger brands like VEJA and Allbirds are ‘the new cool’. While Adidas showed (with Parlay ocean plastic shoes) you can also create a billion dollar mainstream offer. Even banking is changing, with rapid growth in ESG and Impact Investing. Plus, the $40Bn overnight success of sustainability linked loans to companies like Philips and Prada. How can marketing and the creative industries respond? Even Extinction Rebellion thinks we can play a positive role – although XR also say it has to go beyond banning plastic straws - if we can only manage to tell the truth and lead the change. Hundreds of creative agencies and brands came out on climate strike and donated ideas: Or in the case of Patagonia donated their entire $10m tax windfall to environmental causes. But what now? How do you set a positive course? In this book we look at some of the leaders – brands like Patagonia and Max Burgers aiming to be climate positive. And we look at brands who have found a fresh sense of purpose by championing a relevant cause. The book is packed with case studies, tools, research insights. Covering issues like eco labelling, transparency, circular economy, rebound effects, impact investment, new coalitions and developments ranging from sustainable finance, to blockchain and traceability, to regenerative farming. One key theme that carries over from the Green Marketing Book is that marketers need to know their facts if attempts are not to be superficial. When you know 95% of the energy footprint of a mobile phone is in manufacturing and materials (not charging the battery) you know that getting people to dim their screen won’t save much CO2. But that getting them to keep their phone in use for an extra year is a huge win for the planet. The ultimate goal is to go beyond marketing that simply looks good, and to create a vision of marketing that does good. Uncover strategies for sustainable marketing that actually deliver on green and social objectives, not just greenwashing Reconceptualise marketing and business models, and learn to recognise the commercial strategies and approaches that are no longer fit for purpose Learn how hot topics like the climate crisis, single use plastics, and blockchain technology influence green and social marketing Read examples and case studies from both brand leaders and challengers that have developed innovations and fresh creative approaches to green and social marketing Get practical tools, models, facts, plus strategy, workshop and project processes and business case rationales - so that you can build your own plans and proposals This book is intended to assist marketers, by means of clear and practical guidance, through a comp

We belong to a gullible, partly delusional/hallucinating, self-destructive species: Homo sapiens. First, we create the conditions for global catastrophes including epidemics by following unsustainable policies, and then, as we are hit—as the COVID-19 pandemic shows—we react often too late, confused and short-sighted. Hence, we badly need a new, evolved global vision/mission to steer away from our innate and self-destructive shortcomings and flaws. This book includes two parts. Book One tells my true/legendary story with the Green Man, describing how such a vision/mission was conceived. Book Two describes a tour de force beyond Homo sapiens’s current wisdom, ultimate meaning, and fixed destiny, leading to the abovementioned new, evolved vision for a future civilization, which will focus on saving us from ourselves.

"It's a doozie. Set in a science fictional universe where climate change is fixed but people get killed via teleportation, a young woman named Anna Huff has to navigate her adolescence and a murder mystery. It has a little bit of all the genres you love in combinations you've never imagined, and it's easily the funniest thing we've read this year so far." -- GQ "Drew Magary's 'first posthumous novel' is so good. It's about big tech, weird futures, growing up, and, intriguingly for us, the absurdity of on-demand global travel." -- Roads And KingdomsWhen the corporate monolith PortSys brought porting to the masses, CEO Emilia Kirsch and her son Jason accomplished what every other startup company had failed to deliver. They really did change the world. They reversed climate change. They created a multitrillion dollar industry out of thin air, curing economic woes across the globe. They made it so that anyone could be anywhere simply by touching a screen......including the man who murdered Sarah Huff. Now Sarah's 17-year-old sister, Anna, is determined to hunt the bastard down. But there are a few problems. She doesn't know who the killer is, or where in the world he may be at any given moment. Also, she's stuck at prestigious Druskin Academy, where PortPhones are banned and any student who attempts to port off campus is immediately expelled. It gets stickier. Anna's also fallen in love with her dazzling new roommate, who just so happens to be Emilia Kirsch's daughter, Lara. The dean of students wants Anna dead, perhaps literally. And she has only two friends to confide in: one a reckless alcoholic and the other a bizarre fussbudget. Oh, and now she also needs to find Lara, who has mysteriously disappeared from campus. From the author of The Postmortal and The Hike comes his most deliriously entertaining novel yet. Point B is the story of one clever and occasionally determined young woman seeking both love and vengeance, but hardly ready for those two missions to intersect. It takes you to Vietnam, Hollywood, Singapore, Tokyo, inland Mexico, Oxford, the Maldives, Cuba, the coast of Northeast Australia, and ALL points beyond. You will find yourself plunged into a borderless, chaotic, oddly miraculous world that is ruled by a single bloodless corporation, and by a family determined to keep it that way. But PortSys never expected Anna Huff, and Anna Huff never expected love to make her this daring.
