Music therapist Isabella Dawson is on stage at the Cowboy and Western Museum about to receive an award for her outstanding moral character. As her fiancé, Charles Roberts looks on with love, Isabella longs for real passion to exist between them. In that moment, the museum slips Isabella back in time to The Grand Saloon Theater on a riverboat traveling down the Mississippi. Even better, she’s landed in the arms of a gambling man who answers only to “Chaz.” But Isabella would recognize Charles Roberts anywhere. Now it seems, their nights of passion might be possible. But first, she must navigate undergarments she’s only read about, sing as a headliner in the theater, and let go of her need to be perfect. Lucky for her, she’s found a gambling man who yearns to make all Isabella’s dreams come true…looks like this time the cards just might be stacked in her favor.

America has been a beacon of hope and a land of opportunity since its inception. During the twentieth century, America became a great country and the Americans born during the early part of that century proved to be what some now call ?America's greatest generation.' The times moved fast, and change was essential and uncompromising. Rex Tanner's story is of one man who started from meager beginnings, survived everything and anything life could throw at him and retained his good humor and self-confidence until his last dying breath. Even from early childhood he was able to draw from his natural ingenuity to sidestep danger as he adroitly and fearlessly turned negative situations into positive solutions, learning and growing from his experiences. A unique and colorful life as a folk hero, incognito and a proud card carrying member of ?America's Greatest Generation? An inspiration and example of the American heart, Rex Tanner's life now comes alive on these pages for all to consider.

During the 1930s, Tartt (1880-1974) worked with W.P.A. folklorists, personally interviewing people in her own county to collect the spirituals that had been sung for 100 years. An initial publication of her collection is presented, based on the manuscripts, correspondence, and personal papers examined so far. Unfortunately, only the lyrics are presented--without the music. Notes discuss sources, analogues, and recordings. Indexed only by song title. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

You got a choice. Hang as a horse thief or teach our schoolkids. That was the decision facing Mage Casebolt, a decision that made him wish he had never disembarked the riverboat at New Orleans.Bound for San Francisco to join his brothers in a gambling emporium, Mage s journey halts abruptly in Valley Springs when he is framed for horse stealing. The teaching job is unpleasant enough, but then a cholera epidemic quarantines the town, saddling him with an old freed slave, twelve boisterous schoolchildren who make a practice of running teachers out of town, and the local postmistress who detests the idea of a gambler playing the part of schoolmaster. Then the rustlers hit, and Mage faces the task of reining them in with his little contingent of misfits. He quickly realizes that mixing kids, guns, dynamite, and rattlesnakes can make life mighty exciting, and uncertain.

Since its first edition, in 1964, Dixon and Godrich's Blues and Gospel Records has been dubbed 'the bible' for collectors of pre-war African-American music. It provides an exhaustive listing of all recordings made up to the end of 1943 in a distinctively African-American musical style, excluding those customarily classed as jazz (which are the subject of separate discographies). The book covers recordings made for the commercial market (whether issued at the time or not) and also recordings made for the Library of Congress Archive of Folk Song and similar bodies -- about 20,000titles in all, by more than 3,000 artists. For each recording session, full details are given of: artist credit, accompaniment, place and date of recording, titles, issuing company and catalogue numbers, matrix numbers and alternate takes. There are also short accounts of the major 'race labels',which recorded blues and gospel material, and a complete list of field trips to the south by travelling recording units. Howard Rye has joined the original compilers for this thoroughly revised fourth edition. The scope has been enlarged by the addition of about 150 new artists, in addition tonewly discovered recordings by other artists. Early cylinder recordings of gospel music, from the 1890s, are also included for the first time. Previous editions of this work were applauded for their completeness, accuracy, and reliability. This has now been enhanced by the addition of newinformation from record labels and from record company files, and by listening to a wide selection of titles, and detailed cross-checking.
