Inspired by the often uncomfortable interplay between autistic individuals, parents and professionals in understanding autistic spectrum conditions, Olga Bogdashina uses the concept of Theory of Mind (ToM) to consider these groups' different (and often conflicting) perspectives. ToM is the ability to imagine and make judgements about what others feel and think; its absence in autistic individuals is called 'mindblindness'. This book addresses the 'mindblindness' of people united in their interest in autism but divided by their different angles and perspectives. Divided into four parts, the book first defines autism, then the views of the three main groups working with it - autistic individuals, parents and professionals - under the headings of classifications, diagnosis, causes, development, theories and treatment. By comparing and reconciling the different perspectives in this way, the book helps each group to understand and predict each other's responses and behaviours. This enlightening and innovative book offers a unique way of 'stepping in each other's shoes' and is a valuable resource for all people living or working with autism.

Based on the belief that even small accommodations make a difference in the success of students with disabilities, this text provides classroom teachers with the knowledge, tools, and practical strategies that will empower them to spark learning in every student. From students with disabilities, culturally diverse students, and students with limited English proficiency to economically disadvantaged students Vaughn/Bos/Schumm provides teachers with the tools they need in their diverse classrooms. Revised to reflect recent changes in the law (IDEA 2004 & No Child Left Behind) and current terminology, the strength of the book continues to be its numerous learning activities and sample lessons addressing both elementary and secondary classrooms. This edition continues its very popular multi- chapter unit on curriculum adaptations with specific strategies and activities for teaching reading, writing, mathematics, content areas, and study skills, which has been further strengthened by a new capstone chapter on teaching self-advocacy, study skills and strategies. The strong emphasis on professional planning and collaboration make it an excellent resource for all teachers. The newest edition features a new chapter on Autism; a new chapter on Developing Independence in Learning; an all new "Tech Tips" features that has received rave reviews; a revised chapter "Managing Student Behavior" that emphasizes school-wide behavior management and positive behavioral support; an expanded chapter on "Collaborating and Coordinating with Other Professionals and Family Members" with increased coverage of co-teaching; a revised chapter on "Planning and Grouping Strategies for Special Learners" that reflects an increased emphasis on grouping; and expanded coverage of secondary education via chapter-opening interviews, new photos, and new examples throughout the text.

"Good Job, Dragon!" was written by Melisssa Lopez, a mother of three kids. Melissa's youngest son is on the Autism Spectrum, also, he absolutely loves dragons! Melissa noticed he was struggling with reading and social skills during early grade-level schooling. So she decided to search for reading materials that would boost his confidence while building his reading and social skills. It was important to find books that would allow Melissa's son to apply what he already knew about numbers, colors, and object identification - all while keeping him engaged, starting from the front cover to the very last page. Though there are many children's books featuring dinosaurs, there are very few dragon-theme books for early readers. So, Melissa decided to write "Good Job, Dragon!"! Finding the perfect toy dragon to feature in the book was very, very, easy, as Melissa's son had collected dozens of them over the years! Melissa photographed all the images in "Good Job, Dragon!" herself. Melissa's husband, Sam, created a prototype of the rough draft of "Good Job, Dragon!". Melissa had her son's professional therapists include it in her son's therapy. The therapists loved reading "Good Job, Dragon!" because they noticed how well Melissa's son participated in reading the book and exclaiming, "Good Job, Dragon!"! Melisa was told that other children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) had participated in the read-alongs of "Good Job, Dragon!" during their therapy sessions as well. They loved meeting 'Dragon'! Melissa decided to share "Good Job, Dragon!" with all readers of all ages and abilities. Dragon enthusiast or not, you're sure to love "Good Job, Dragon!"!
