This is a collection of poetry and short fiction about love and the loss of it, written by a lovesick romantic who will fall so helplessly back into love’s arms, time and time again, even when it doesn’t want to catch her. From loving, soppy sonnets to dark, bitter crime fiction, and deep, contemporary poems to fiery, feminist verses, my writing uses a blend of literary styles. Inspired by the noir genre, Greek mythology, and the Romantics, the book is divided into two sections—'falling' and 'becoming'—and touches on profound topics such as heartbreak, grief, first love, femininity and empowerment. I refuse to shy away from the darkest truths of this mad world, as much as I refuse to ignore the sublimity of its prettiest lies and fantasies. This is first love. This is the fallout. This is the falling, the becoming.

The Falling Leaf portrays the conflict between individuals and the society, quest for redemption, fate and loneliness. The plot dwells on the story of how individuals are but mere puppets in the hands of destiny. Some chose to rebel, whether they manage to succeed or not, making it an interesting read. The story talks about three individuals, Abhishek, Amit and Piyushmita, and how their lives, and their destiny intertwined in the sifar of fate. The narrative begins in Kingsway Camp, Delhi and takes the reader through the venerable lanes of Chandni Chowk, and the taut serenity of Majnu Ka Tila before it reaches the city of Guwahati. The story is about the eccentricities of fate and how it shapes the lives of the individuals.

Book one is a tale set in the altered world following the war of the gods. Life cycled on for ages, burying the ancient tales beneath mounds of time. Dependence and submission to the gods had become a religion of sort, and the end was far from their thoughts. Kutri's gods had been passively idle for ages, but now she was fully ripe for the fulfillment of prophecies. As time weaved its way through the paths of destiny, Kutri struggled to resist her fate. This time it was too late; the gods were out to play. Soon an epic battle emerged, kingdom marching out against kingdom. This is the story of how they fell.

Since its inception philosophical thought has been fixated by death. Death, as much as life, has been the unrelenting driving force behind some of history’s greatest thinkers. Yet, for Emil Cioran, a Romanian-French philosopher, even philosophy cannot attempt to understand nor contain the inevitable unknown. Considered to be an anti-philosopher, Cioran approached and reflected on the human experience with a despairing pessimism. His works are characterised by a brooding, fatalistic temperament that reveals and defines itself in his irony, black humour and inimitable style. Although Cioran’s later works have received much scholarly recognition, little attention has been paid to the texts he wrote in his adolescent. Grounded in the historical context of interwar Romania, this book presents for the first time an analysis of the little-known works of this pioneering Romanian thinker. Deeply affected by his upbringing, this book offers a glimpse into Cioran’s first attempts to delve into philosophical enterprise, before turning its attention to his later works, On the Heights of Despair (1934), The Transfiguration of Romania (1936) and Twilight of thoughts (1940; written in France). Using both the French and Romanian editions of these works, but also their original manuscripts, this volume seeks to provide a re-reading that takes language rather than a social or political critique as its focal point. As an important and provocative contribution to the existing literature on Cioran, this book will be an essential point of reference for students and researchers, alike.

This book explores new grounds that public diplomacy is entering today, as domestic publics come to the forefront of the policy – acting both as foreign policy constituencies and public diplomacy actors cooperating with their foreign counterparts. The author discusses the phenomena of public diplomacy’s domestic dimension described as government’s ability to engage its own society in foreign policy practices through information, cooperation and identity-defining. By analysing data from over 80 recorded interviews with Australian, Norwegian and American public diplomacy practitioners, this volume illustrates both successful and unsuccessful models of such cooperation. From Norwegian Peace Diplomacy, through Australia’s ambivalent engagement with Asia, to U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs, the author argues that governments around the world are slowly accepting a paradigm shift in diplomatic practice from monological/dialogical to a more collaborative public diplomacy. This book is an essential resource for students, scholars, experts and diplomats interested in world’s best-practices of engaging domestic civil society actors in foreign policy statecraft.

According to Hindu mythology, Brahma has a lifespan of 100 years. That may appear way short for a god of Brahma’s standing . (He is the creator of our solar system.) But Brahma and Hindu gods do not follow our traditional 24-hour clock. They represent time in cosmic units of yugas and kalpas. If you don’t understand any of these terms, that’s ok. A kalpa, for instance, is defined as a day of Brahma and translates to 4.32 billion human years. In fact Brahma has a lifespan of 311 trillion years! We explain these colossal timescales, as we introduce Brahma in this book. You will learn that Brahma initially was the supreme deity of Hinduism, but he could not hang on to his position for long. A judgmental lapse is said to have caused his downfall. With Brahma’s descent, Vishnu rose to power. Today, in the Hindu pantheon, Vishnu is a prominent god, and has a following of more than 700 million devotees, who are occasionally identified by the U-shared marks on their foreheads. With a focus on Vishnu and Brahma, we continue our journey beyond the Vedic era. We begin by examining a popular creation myth in which Brahma emerges from the navel of a sleeping Vishnu and starts crafting the world. Further on, we explore the churning of the milky ocean, a crucial event in Hindu mythology and one of the rare occasions when gods and demons collaborated (instead of fighting) to search for the nectar of immortality. Many precious things—and surprises—came out this quest, including Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and consort of Vishnu. We also get to know a critical insight into our ancestry. According to Hinduism, we are all related and descendants of Manu, the father of human race. While this book focuses on Brahma and Vishnu, there will be occasional detours when we pause to look at art and architecture. In particular, we’ll look at Angkor Wat, the largest Hindu temple in the world. Guess what? The fact that Angkor Wat is located outside India has dented Hindu pride from time immemorial. We’ll also peek at ancient paintings from a mythological perspective, especially the unique genre of miniature paintings called ragamala that combines art, music, and poetry. A remarkable shift in worship took place during this period. Bhakti became a major form of worship and pervaded Hindu society forever. If you are unfamiliar with bhakti, then nothing exemplifies bhakti (devotion) more than the dancing-and-chanting Hare Krishnas.
