The methods of attaining great heights are frequently discussed, with many postulations propounded by pundits and individuals of phenomenal accomplishments, yet reaching the pinnacle of such heights remains ever so elusive to the masses; hence, only a select few are able to make these extraordinary strides. In Drive to Passion, Ted Obomanu chronicles the lives of a few highly accomplished individuals: • Harland Sanders, a perfectionist, who was the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC); • Winston Churchill, the vivacious and popular prime minister of Britain, who led his country to victory during the Second World War; • Joseph Kennedy, patriarch of the Kennedy clan, business mogul, and kingmaker; • Sidney Poitier, acclaimed actor and the first African-American movie star to receive an Oscar in a leading role; • Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents of the United States, responsible for the abolition of slavery; • Suze Orman, financial guru and popular TV host who epitomizes passion; • Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the United States, who accomplished this unprecedented feat despite its improbability; • Oprah Winfrey, owner of a TV network, one of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world, and was the host and producer of one of the most popular TV shows ever. Obomanu does this to explore firsthand how these individuals were able to reach the summit of their vocations. He also turns the chronicling of these great individuals’ lives into an intriguing narrative, without compromising the lessons. Obomanu makes significant findings in this book: Passion more than anything else is responsible for success and greatness, which is self-evident in the lives of the great individuals he chronicles; to attain distinction, the quest for passion should always be centered around a niche; passion is fueled by drive, and a shift in focus from passion to the rewards of accomplishments, such as wealth, may potentially derail the attainment of success and greatness; mentors play a huge role in the accomplishment of our goals. At the conclusion of this great reading, Obomanu delves into how spirituality and personal development can greatly enhance the quest for passion and how the pursuit of passion can trigger happiness and longevity. He sums up by asserting that the aspiration of success and greatness should be driven by all the components of passion to ensure its sustainability and potential value to society.

Hammer and chisel will not be needed to understand how the hard drive operates. Storage devices in computers have come a long way. Today, we observe that the mechanical hard drives are beeing replaced by SSD. However, the concept of operation of mechanical disks (eg, head, sector) will be used for new construction of disks, for a long time. The administrator will certainly need to know the sturucture of hard disk if one will have to retrieve the overwritten MBR.

Drive Yourself Successful: 11 Inner States to Personal Empowerment offers you a driver’s view of what keeps your gear shift stuck in park on the road of life. Author Rachel Lynn illustrates what keeps you from setting goals and accelerating toward them and challenges you to realize that you hold the key to your own life experiences. Following the analogy of driving your car, Rachel helps you identify items stored in your trunk that weigh you down emotionally and keep you from moving forward. She supplies you with crucial tools to carry with you in case you break down or run out of gas; demonstrates how thoughts serve as your life GPS; assists you in developing a clear vision for the future—steering you away from focusing on what is in the rear-view mirror; educates you on how to regain your spark, embrace detours and prevent them from turning into roadblocks, and when to stay in your own lane by setting personal boundaries and not comparing yourself to others. Make a wrong turn? Rachel challenges you to recognize when it is time to change gears and go in a different direction while helping you develop an internal sense of self-confidence and motivation to get behind the wheel. This book draws from others’ real life experiences to challenge you to closely examine what lies underneath the hood of your car in regard to your thinking and personal beliefs and how you can redirect your thoughts to accelerate toward the life you desire.

New in town and a long way from Georgia, Judah Moretti finds himself in search of a solitary place to drink away from the humdrum of his life. Helena’s, a rundown gay bar along a strip of unnamed highway somewhere in New Jersey, seems like just the place to do it. But, the moment he sets foot inside that bar, his life quickly changes. There he finds Jacques Dupont, the effeminate all-black clad husband of a tech millionaire. Judah finds himself unable to fight being drawn to Jack – a mere moth to a flame. Not only is he the exact opposite of Judah’s average looks, but something about him calls to the contrast of Judah’s mundane and boring life. Like a car careening off a cliff, Judah is unable to stop this crash course in fate. An inevitable collision of their lives under those dim and dusty lights inside Helena’s. As he begins to become more than acquaintances with the pretty boy in the shadows, Judah learns that looks aren’t everything and that some people come with secrets that run just as red as blood. Just how much is Judah willing to give to learn more about this queer and enigmatic man? Cemetery Drive is a dark romance of obsession, love, loss and a touch of revenge. A beautiful mess full of grandiose sentiments and heart-wrenching tragedy.

What began as a solution for transportation has evolved into a desire for speed, luxury, personal expression, and freedom. For many, the thrill of the drive has eclipsed the pure utility of the automobile. And the pursuit of that thrill is the driving force behind 365 Cars You Must Drive. From the Ford Model T to the Porsche Carrera GT, there are certain cars that any self-respecting auto enthusiast just has to know—and experience from the driver’s seat. With homage to the greatest cars and good-natured mockery of the strangest, authors Matt Stone and John Matras detail which cars to drive and why, how to get behind the wheel, where to drive them, and who to invite along for the ride. Each entry contains a colorful spec box noting the car's claim to fame, a Did You Know? factoid, the author's clever suggestions for "The Perfect Passenger" and the "Soundtrack" coming out of the speakers, Behind the Wheel notes, and a "Perfect Drive" for the marque or model covered. Engine details, production information, the price when it debuted and the collectible price now - all of it adds up to at-a-glance fun reading to go with informative essays on each car, archival and full-color photos, and more. Today, we're married to our cars. But life behind the wheel of an automobile didn't come naturally to Americans. Crooked politicians, unscrupulous businessmen, burning streetcars, and convoluted tax shenanigans are a few of the players in this gripping tale of corruption, greed, and endless miles of asphalt. In Andy Singer's accessible, scandalous tale of motordom, comics, text, and historic photographs tell the story of the rise of the U.S. highway system and the corresponding demise of rail and public transportation. He also explores how we can ditch the car and rebuild a functional transportation system that can bring wealth, happiness, and freedom.

The Sunday drive. Mom, dad and the kids would head out to see the countryside. An ice cream treat usually waited at day's end. Back in the Burma-Shave days, mom-and-pop drive-ins and gas station biscuits fed folks. Cheap gas filled cars, and people made Sunday drives through a land where See Rock City barns, sawdust piles and trains and junkyards gave them plenty to see. Men in seersucker suits ran old stores with oscillating fans, and if the kids ate too much penny candy, grandma had a home remedy for them. It was a time for dinner on church grounds, yard art and old-fashioned petunias. Join author Tom Poland as he revisits disappearing traditions.

The Chicago Bears' 2011 season was over long before Major Wright's awkward landing on team captain Brian Urlacher's left knee, which ultimately required off-season surgery. Urlacher, writhing in pain on the Metrodome turf during the team's final game, was the final blow to the Bears' 2011 season, which had begun with a promising 7-3 record, ended with the insult of an 8-8 record, and serious injuries to the team's three biggest stars: Brian Urlacher, Jay Cutler, and Matt Forte. 2011's disappointing end marked the fourth time in the previous five seasons that the Bears failed to make the playoffs. While the most direct cause of the Bears' late-season slump was quarterback Jay Cutler's freak thumb injury in Week 11, a lack of depth, adaptability, and success in the draft meant the lion's share of the blame fell on general manager Jerry Angelo. He, along with controversial offensive coordinator Mike Martz, were dismissed at season's end and replaced by long-time scouting director Phil Emery and former offensive line coach Mike Tice, respectively. While Bears onlookers expected a big move during free agency, Emery surprised everyone by making one of his first acquisitions the all-pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Marshall, who played with Cutler for the Denver Broncos, instantly became the most talented receiver ever to grace a Bears roster. The reunion continued when another former Bronco, Jeremy Bates, was brought in to be the quarterbacks coach, completing the triumvirate that helped Cutler and Marshall put up some of their best statistical seasons in Denver. It seemed like the Bears were finally surrounding Cutler with the level of talent he would need to thrive in the pass-happy NFL. Despite added weapons on the offensive end, many questions persisted as the off-season continued. Would Matt Forte's tense contract negotiations be solved before training camp or would a lengthy, damaging holdout follow? Would unheralded first-round pick Shea McClellin help the Bears defensive line issues or would Emery's gamble echo the many draft busts of his predecessor? Would the offensive line protect Cutler enough for him to take advantage of his new weapons? Would Brian Urlacher return at peak form following his gruesome knee injury and mysterious surgery? Your 2012 Chicago Bears is the complete guide to all of the 2012 Bears storylines and an in-depth wrap-up of all of the team's off-season moves. This book will make sure fans are caught up on anything missed over the summer and get them ready for a Bears season filled with high expectations. Edited by the award-winning journalists of the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Bears' march to Super Bowl XLVII begins here.

Before Rachel Carson, there was George Bird Grinnell—the man whose prophetic vision did nothing less than launch American conservation. George Bird Grinnell, the son of a New York merchant, saw a different future for a nation in the thrall of the Industrial Age. With railroads scarring virgin lands and the formerly vast buffalo herds decimated, the country faced a crossroads: Could it pursue Manifest Destiny without destroying its natural bounty and beauty? The alarm that Grinnell sounded would spark America’s conservation movement. Yet today his name has been forgotten—an omission that John Taliaferro’s commanding biography now sets right with historical care and narrative flair. Grinnell was born in Brooklyn in 1849 and grew up on the estate of ornithologist John James Audubon. Upon graduation from Yale, he dug for dinosaurs on the Great Plains with eminent paleontologist Othniel C. Marsh—an expedition that fanned his romantic notion of wilderness and taught him a graphic lesson in evolution and extinction. Soon he joined George A. Custer in the Black Hills, helped to map Yellowstone, and scaled the peaks and glaciers that, through his labors, would become Glacier National Park. Along the way, he became one of America’s most respected ethnologists; seasons spent among the Plains Indians produced numerous articles and books, including his tour de force, The Cheyenne Indians: Their History and Ways of Life. More than a chronicler of natural history and indigenous culture, Grinnell became their tenacious advocate. He turned the sportsmen’s journal Forest and Stream into a bully pulpit for wildlife protection, forest reserves, and national parks. In 1886, his distress over the loss of bird species prompted him to found the first Audubon Society. Next, he and Theodore Roosevelt founded the Boone and Crockett Club to promote “fair chase” of big game. His influence among the rich and the patrician provided leverage for the first federal legislation to protect migratory birds—a precedent that ultimately paved the way for the Endangered Species Act. And in an era when too many white Americans regarded Native Americans as backwards, Grinnell’s cries for reform carried from the reservation, through the halls of Congress, all the way to the White House. Drawing on forty thousand pages of Grinnell’s correspondence and dozens of his diaries, Taliaferro reveals a man whose deeds and high-mindedness earned him a lustrous peerage, from presidents to chiefs, Audubon to Aldo Leopold, John Muir to Gifford Pinchot, Edward S. Curtis to Edward H. Harriman. Throughout his long life, Grinnell was bound by family and sustained by intimate friendships, toggling between the East and the West. As Taliaferro’s enthralling portrait demonstrates, it was this tension that wound Grinnell’s nearly inexhaustible spring and honed his vision—a vision that still guides the imperiled future of our national treasures.
