“Dawn makes healthy eating fun and delicious, and the dishes are easy to prepare. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to eat nutritious, joyful food.”—Lyn-Genet Recitas, New York Times bestselling author of The Plan The 4-week plan that beat out all other plans in the ABC weight-loss reality TV show My Diet Is Better than Yours. For more than fifteen years, nutritionist Dawn Jackson Blatner has helped hundreds of clients lose their bad eating habits and step up to optimal health. The key? Not deprivation, but a new kind of gratification, which she calls “super swapping”—exchanging fake foods (C.R.A.P.: food with Chemicals; Refined sugar and flour; Artificial sweeteners and colors; and Preservatives) for wholesome high-quality superfoods. A largely plant-based diet rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants stabilizes hunger hormones, speeds metabolism, and fights disease. For each week, Blatner shares simple techniques, with eat/avoid lists, ideas for great lunches, advice on how to read labels to spot healthy-food impostors, and scores of useful infographics. The 100 tempting recipes—many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free—include Fish Tacos with Crunchy Cabbage Slaw, BBQ Sandwich & Collard Chips, Sprouted Pizza, and Dark Chocolate Cherry Milkshake. Each one comes with a nutrition analysis. “Informative, creative, and fun. She shares sound nutrition advice based on scientific research and years of experience, and she does it in a way that’s both engaging and easy to digest. Filled with practical tips, helpful charts, and delicious recipes, this book definitely deserves a spot on your bookshelf.”—Joy Bauer, MS, RDN, health and nutrition expert for NBC’s Today Show and #1 New York Times bestselling author of From Junk Food to Joy Food

We don’t need to be instructed to eat apples instead of potato chips. What we need is someone to inspire us to eat well and to show us just how powerful eating that apple can be. This person must be a trusted voice, one that can calm the informational clutter instead of adding yet another discordant voice to the pile. Desiree Nielsen is a registered dietitian, one of the public’s most trusted sources of nutrition information. In Un-Junk Your Diet, she teaches readers about anti-inflammatory dieting in a way that’s engaging, funny, and approachable. This book begins with a call to action to help shake up perceptions of what food means to our bodies and illuminate all the ways that marketers co-opt healthy eating messages to coerce us into choosing food that is unworthy. In addition, an in-depth look at the fundamentals of nutrition—with a splash of myth busting—strengthens readers’ abilities to resist the latest nutrition headline and continue making healthier choices. Because there is no one right way for every individual eater, Nielsen offers a brief exercise in self-discovery before providing four distinct plans for becoming healthier. They range from the gentle and gradual to the two-week kick start that appeals to both detox seekers and vacation slimmers.

Discover how to relax around food and free yourself from a lifetime of dieting. The dieting industry makes it seem like losing weight is some sort of rocket science, a top secret combination of special foods eaten in special ways and all kinds of expensive superfoods, fitness fads, and embarrassing celebrity endorsements. And so it's understandable that when someone seems to stay slender, it must obviously be because they're just naturally that way. By accident, even. We assume some special innate characteristics mean they get to run circles around the laws of physics, eat junk food, and end up with flat abs and a bum you can bounce coins off. The truth, though? Nobody is naturally thin. In fact, when somebody claims to be naturally one way or the other (naturally slim or just naturally bigger, without anything they can do about it) what they are actually telling you is that they have a lifestyle that naturally leads to either a healthy weight or overweight. Nobody can fight the laws of physics, but people are born with different temperaments, different life philosophies, and different attitudes toward food. Look at a thin person, and what's likely the cause is that they think about food differently, and because they do, they behave differently when they eat. This guide will help you to: - Transform your entire relationship with food - Gradually lose weight and keep it off for the rest of your life - Let go of magic pills, shakes, and other stuff the dieting industry, colleagues, and that skinny YouTube chick want you to believe in - Explore and understand why you eat when you're body isn't hungry - Take responsibility to love, respect, and nourish your body - And much more!

Adolescents in many countries consume poor quality diets that include high intakes of sugary drinks and fast food and low intakes of vegetables. The aims of this Special Issue on adolescent dietary behavior were to identify methods and approaches for successful interventions to improve diet quality in this age group and identify at-risk subgroups that need particular attention. In total, 11 manuscripts were published in this Special Issue: three qualitative studies that included a systematic review, five cross-sectional studies, and three quantitative evaluations of interventions. This Special Issue discusses the contribution of the studies and provides suggestions to improve the success of future interventions in adolescents. It is important that adolescents are involved in the design of interventions to improve social and cultural acceptability and relevance. Interventions targeting schools or communities framed within a larger food system, such as issues around climate change and the carbon footprint of food, may improve engagement. Targeting adolescents in areas of deprivation is a priority where diet quality is particularly poor. Potentially successful interventions also include environmental policies that impact the cost and marketing of food and drinks, although evaluations of these were not included in this Special Issue.

Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Health - Children and adolescents, University of Phoenix, language: English, abstract: This paper analyses whether fast food contributes to childhood obesity. Obesity is a multi-factorial disorder comprising genetic, dietary, conduct, and ecological components. The expanded eating of energy-dense poor nutrient diets with high saturated fats and sugar levels joined with diminished physical activity, have prompted high corpulence rates among kids. Current statistics depict that 15% of U.S kids and averagely 33% of adults are obsessed. The results in this new study support evidence that fast-foods adds to a high intake of calories and obesity risk in kids.

Named one of the top health and wellness books for 2016 by Well + Good and MindBodyGreen From leading psychiatrist and author of Fifty Shades of Kale comes a collection of 100 simple, delicious, and affordable recipes to help you get the core nutrients your brain and body need to stay happy and healthy. What does food have to do with brain health? Everything. Your brain burns more of the food you eat than any other organ. It determines if you gain or lose weight, if you’re feeling energetic or fatigued, if you’re upbeat or depressed. In this essential guide and cookbook, Drew Ramsey, MD, explores the role the human brain plays in every part of your life, including mood, health, focus, memory, and appetite, and reveals what foods you need to eat to keep your brain—and by extension your body—properly fueled. Drawing upon cutting-edge scientific research, Dr. Ramsey identifies the twenty-one nutrients most important to brain health and overall well-being—the very nutrients that are often lacking in most people’s diets. Without these nutrients, he emphasizes, our brains and bodies don’t run the way they should. Eat Complete includes 100 appetizing, easy, gluten-free recipes engineered for optimal nourishment. It also teaches readers how to use food to correct the nutrient deficiencies causing brain drain and poor health for millions. For example: • Start the day with an Orange Pecan Waffle or a Turmeric Raspberry Almond Smoothie, and the Vitamin E found in the nuts will work to protect vulnerable brain fat (plus the fiber keeps you satisfied until lunch). • Enjoy Garlic Butter Shrimp over Zucchini Noodles and Mussels with Garlicky Kale Ribbons and Artichokes, and the zinc and magnesium from the seafood will help stimulate the growth of new brain cells. • Want to slow down your brain’s aging process? Indulge with a cup of Turmeric Cinnamon Hot Chocolate, and the flavanols found in chocolate both increase blood flow to the brain and help fight age-related memory decline. Featuring fifty stunning, full-color photographs, Eat Complete helps you pinpoint the nutrients missing from your diet and gives you tasty recipes to transform your health—and ultimately your life.
