Human papillomavirus infection is an infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV infection is the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection. Most HPV infections cause little to no symptoms and resolve spontaneously. An HPV infection may persist and result in warts or precancerous lesions, which can later cause cancer of the cervix, penis, vulva, vagina, anus, mouth or throat. Some of the risk factors associated with persistent HPV infections are sexual intercourse with multiple partners, poor immune function, early age of first sexual intercourse and smoking. HPV vaccines are effective in the prevention of most common infections. HPV infections can be prevented through sexual abstinence and use of condoms. The immune system clears HPV naturally within a period of two years for the majority of the cases, but it is debated whether the virus gets completely eliminated from the body or reduced to undetectable levels. This book provides comprehensive insights into human papillomavirus. It aims to shed light on the clinical aspects of human papillomavirus infections and the recent researches in this domain. Coherent flow of topics, student-friendly language and extensive use of examples make this book an invaluable source of knowledge.

Genital Papillomavirus Infections provides a state of the art survey on the clinical aspects, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of genital papillomavirus infections, written by experts in the respective fields. Two introductory sections on epidemiology and molecular biology are followed by chapters on new techniques for the detection of genital papillomaviruses and their presence in genital carcinomas. Contributions on the clinical aspects cover infections of the cervix, male and female external genitalia, urethra, and oral cavity. A discussion of the immunobiology of papillomaviruses ends in an evaluation of the prospects for vaccination, and the application of podophyllotoxin, cryosurgery, laser therapy, and interferon treatment are described in detail. This book is unique in placing a strong emphasis on clinical aspects of genital papillomavirus infections. Mainly addressed to clinicians, it provides practical guidelines on methods for their diagnosis and treatment.

Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent cancer among women worldwide, and infection with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) has been identified as the causal agent for this condition. The natural history of cervical cancer is characterized by slow disease progression, rendering the condition, in essence, preventable and even treatable when diagnosed in early stages. Pap smear and the recently introduced prophylactic vaccines are the most prominent prevention options, but despite the availability of these primary and secondary screening tools, the global burden of disease is unfortunately still very high. This book will focus on the clinical aspects of HPV and related disease, highlighting the latest developments in this field.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a major cause of cervical cancer. Human Papillomavirus Infections in Dermatovenereology pulls together the diverse disciplines of clinical, molecular biological, socio epidemiological, and immunological research to bridge the gap between the clinical aspects and basic biology of HPV. This volume provides a much-needed overview of the scientific and clinical data of HPV and HPV-associated diseases, exploring opinions on current therapies and diagnostic methods. It critically reviews the most frequently used molecular biologic methods, evaluating their potential in HPV detection. Specialists in dermatology, genitourinary medicine, gynecology, urology, as well as pathologists, microbiologists, epidemiologists, and virologists will appreciate this timely examination of the ubiquitous pathogen, HPV.

This volume evaluates the carcinogenic risk to humans posed by infection with human papillomaviruses (HPVs). To date, more than 70 HPV types have been identified, of which over 15 have been reported in cervical cancer biopsies. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women. This book also considers the possible involvement of HPV infection in cancers at other sites of the human body.

This book is about the highly infective human papilloma virus (HPV). There are more than 200 strains of HPV, though only a few, like HPV 16 and HPV 18, are oncogenic. HPV infections can lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus, penis, and oral cavity.Written by authors from across the globe, this book is a comprehensive look at HPV. Chapters cover such topics as the epidemiology of HPV, treatment of the manifestations of HPV, which can include warts on the skin and genitals, diagnosis and management of oral mucosal cancers due to HPV, HPV and pregnancy, and HPV vaccines. It is a useful reference for researchers and scientists in the field, providing them with helpful knowledge to combat and prevent HPV infections and cancers.

Over recent years there has been considerable interest in Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection of the genitals. Not only are genital warts the commonest sexually transmitted infections, but treatment and control of these infections have proved difficult and HPV has been implicated in the causation of a number of anogenital tract tumours including cervical, vulval, penile and anal cancer. Major advances in molecular biology and anti-viral chemotherapy in the last decade have revolutionizedunderstanding of the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of virus-associated diseases and the potential for producing effective immunisation. Infections with human papillomavirus are no exception. Genital Warts is an essential resource for all those concerned with this complex clinical problem and its sequelae.
