What you and I have experienced in life began before we came into existence. One of the greatest enemies of the present is the ability not to understand the historical foundation that is the structure of our lives. Have you ever heard the words, “what you don’t know won’t hurt you” or “what goes on in this house stays in this house”? Many of us have spent years living behind these words. We have allowed these words to stunt our growth. The author expresses to his readers the importance of understanding the quote; “the past holds the key to the present, and the present holds access to future.” The author explores some historical implications that have had an effect on the current lifestyle of many individuals. He elaborates to women the importance of knowing what your name means. Leaving women with the quote; “I was Responsible for waiting on you, I was Accountable in my search for you, I was Consistent in finding you, and now I have to be Persistent that I don’t lose you.” He helps women/men to understand the difference between Bruh and Men. Leaving men with the quote; “When the man is out of place, the woman becomes displaced, and the children become misplaced.” He goes on to express to parents and educators that the key to saving our children is through communication. We must learn to meet our children where they are by understanding the language they speak. He leaves parents and educators with the Cherokee proverb; “If you listen to the whispers, you won’t have to hear the screams.” The author leaves his readers with the words: “If you leave and grow, you can come back and plant.”

What if you knew all the moments of my past that I am not proud of? What if you really knew me, the messy parts that I’ve hoped to forget and worked hard to conceal? For so long, my greatest fear was what you might think of me if you only knew the whole story. It’s exhausting, this guarding of our stories and struggles. Fear of being found out had caused me to hide—but I wasn’t just covering my flaws, I was unintentionally blocking the beauty of God’s grace. My journey to real freedom began when I quit running from my mess and started trusting Jesus to make something beautiful of it. This book is that story. It’s stepping out of shame and insecurity into gospel freedom. It’s letting God turn our failures and frailties into testimonies of His faithfulness. I’ve discovered that when we quit hiding, God gets the glory and we are able to fully embrace not only our relationship with Him, but also with one another. Transparency brings freedom, and in every moment, we'll find that God can absolutely be trusted.

In May 1758, a bailiff named Jean Moriceau de La Motte was arrested for carrying seditious flyers and uttering mauvais discours against Louis XV. When he was questioned at the Bastille over the next several months, La Motte was unequivocal in his loyalty to the king, but his insistence failed to convince the police and probably hurt his case more than would have a simple admission of guilt. He was sentenced to be hanged on the Place de Grève after making his amends on the steps of Nôtre Dame. His punishment seemed severe, if not unwarranted, to an increasingly literate and informed Parisian populace that found censorship hard to support, either theoretically or practically, in the face of intellectual and cultural changes wrought by the Enlightenment. By looking at the police files for cases such as La Motte's, Lisa Jane Graham uncovers fascinating clues to the conflicting attitudes of eighteenth-century French subjects toward royal authority. Individuals like La Motte often failed to see the subversive implications of their words and protested their fidelity to the king in impassioned language. The crown's inability or refusal to accommodate a wider range of political speech turned the opinions of these indivduals into bitter grievances and sometimes crimes. Ironically, the decision to repress seditious speech not only alienated essentially loyal French men and women; by marking them as opponents of monarchical authority, it strengthened their sense of their own autonomy and legitimacy as social actors. The complex and surprising web of motivations lying at the heart of such loyalty, as revealed in the police files Graham examines, undermines some deeply rooted assumptions about the Enlightenment and its links to modernity. Graham's book presents the eighteenth century as the critical historical moment for studying how the premodern virtue of loyalty gave way to new ideas and vocabularies about the relationship between individuals and government. If the King Only Knew attests to the powerful emotional and ideological conflicts this difficult transition unleashed.

The true-crime story of an alcoholic Michigan millionaire and his bizarre death, by the New York Times bestselling author of I'd Kill For You. When Vonlee “Nicole” Titlow and her aunt, Billie Jean Rogers, came home from a night of gambling in a casino near Detroit, they told police they found Billie's husband unconscious on the floor of the Rogers' mansion. Just another of his alcoholic benders, they assumed. But this time, Donald Rogers didn't wake up. The investigation would reveal the sordid story behind the death of a self-made millionaire—including transgender adventures in Chicago and Denver, a tangled web of dueling addictions, a mind-boggling history of out-of-control spending, and how a gender confirmation surgery may have fueled a motive for murder. Renowned investigative journalist M. William Phelps exposes the riveting details behind one of the most astonishing real-life thrillers to date. Praise for M. When Sarah was a little girl, she talked to me about the things she went through as a child and how she came through with the grace of God and family, how she grew up on the farm, and the hurt and pain of sexual abuses she experienced. Sarah lived and suffered through domestic violence as a young adult and through her married life. Sarah even had a death experience. Sarah even talked about the prayer that her sister prayed to God for a miracle to take place in their lives due to hunger. She talked about how hard it was raising three children and how the abuse affected her life. She told me how God released her from domestic-violence abuse. She talked about the infidelity, lies, and deception in her marriages. Sarah talked about the success she had in life and the success of her children. She often told how God called her into the ministry. Sarah shared about domestic violence, abuse, deliverance, healing, hope, finding your peace in the midst of a storm, loving yourself, reaching out and conquering fear, and loving one another. Sarah said to me what her favorite scripture is, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13).

If I Only Knew . . . Four words to describe the premise of life! Life's twists, turns, and navigation through bumpy roads could be avoided if only we knew that . . . If I Only Knew is the story of three generations, all female, all Jewish, spanning over three continents. From the late 1800s to present-day 2012, Gigi's story will take you through an emotional journey by way of a time capsule of some sort. This autobiography covers the story of a Jewish mother (born in Slovakia, July 4, 1920), who served in the British military, and unbeknown to her, was used by the British to work as a spy. If she only knew . . . Would she have made different choices? If she only knew that escaping the Nazi regime and serving time in the military in Egypt would save her from subsequent years of oppression under the communist regime—would she have made the ill-fated decision to return to Slovakia post-World War II? If Gigi's mother only knew that the note left under her door could lead her to a bridge that was blown up minutes later, would she have followed the path her lover tried to lead her on? If Gigi's mother only knew that the decisions she made would affect Gigi's life and bring upon her abuse, incest, betrayal of love and country, would she have made the same decisions? At thirteen, Gigi made the decision to escape the newly Russian-occupied Slovakia to the country she thought would be her saving grace—Israel. Instead of a place of refuge, the Jewish state that was supposed to protect Gigi ended up being one of the biggest betrayals of her life (one of many). If Gigi only knew that getting on the plane that fateful day would lead her to experience a different kind of holocaust, a personal one, would she have gotten on that plane? If Gigi only knew that her choice in husbands would land her in an insane asylum, cause her to attempt to leave this world, contact the FBI to protect her life, use an assumed name, and ultimately, inflict so much pain on her daughter, would she have married these men? In short, Gigi believes in destiny. She believe that the travails we experience are purposeful. Gigi believes that we are exactly where we are today, because it is what is meant to be. So, despite it all, the answer to the proverbial question of if I only knew, would I? Yes, Gigi would do it exactly as she had! Mistakes, pain, and all. It is all happenstance. Part of our journey through life. It is what you do with these life lessons that matter. It is Gigi's hope that her story of survival will embolden you to take control of any part of your life you feel is out of balance, no matter if it is financial, emotional or mental.
