Black magic. Telepathy. The Universal Mind. Such wonders are real, insists spiritualist Alexander Cannon in this 1933 tome, all manifestations of the invisible influence all around us. Subtitled "a story of the mystic Orient with great truths which can never die," this florid and enthusiastic narrative, structured as a conversation between Cannon and a series of mystics, yogis, and other sages, offers anecdotes of crystal gazing, levitation, hypnotism, distant-touching, and other weird phenomena as evidence of this "invisible influence." A breathless document of the fascination with the occult that gripped the early years of the 20th century, these tales of the paranormal continue to beguile today. British physician and psychiatrist ALEXANDER CANNON (b. 1896) also wrote Sleeping Through Space, The Shadow of Destiny, Science of Hypnotism, and Powers That Be.

Many decisions that the average person makes every day are deeply impacted by factors of which they are seldom aware. A person is likely to understand that others are influenced by suggestion but unlikely to recognize when the same factors can influence a personal decision. Familiarity is a strong motivator for choices. People think more favorably about the things they see frequently even if they are unaware that they have seen them. They are also more likely to conform to group consensus, which can lead to increased popularity of popular products but can cause individuals to avoid contradicting a group that agreed on the wrong choice. Individuals differentiate themselves from others by choosing unfamiliar options intentionally. Invisible Influence: The Hidden Forces that Shape Behavior Summary Book Preview: Invisible Influence by Jonah Berger helps the readers understand the psychology that motivates the decisions about branding and identity. The decisions made by an individual on a daily basis are dictated by subconscious factors so one is hardly aware of its effects. An individual can detect the influence by a suggestion from other people and not be able to recognize the level of impact the same factors had in their decision. Familiarity largely affects choices. People are biased on the things they often see even if they do not recall seeing them. They are likely to follow a group's decision on a preferred product or brand, which leads to increase in popularity of already popular brands. Individuals can, however, shy from going against a group of people that made a wrong choice. As the first examination of women's foremost contributions to Jerzy Grotowski's cross-cultural investigation of performance, this book complements and broadens existing literature by offering a more diverse and inclusive re-assessment of Grotowski's legacy, thereby probing its significance for contemporary performance practice and research. Although the particularly strenuous physical training emblematic of Grotowski's approach is not gender specific, it has historically been associated with a masculine conception of the performer incarnated by Ryszard Cieslak in The Constant Prince, thus overlooking the work of Rena Mirecka, Maja Komorowska, and Elizabeth Albahaca, to name only the leading women performers identified with the period of theatre productions. This book therefore redresses this imbalance by focusing on key women from different cultures and generations who share a direct connection to Grotowski's legacy while clearly asserting their artistic independence. These women actively participated in all phases of the Polish director’s practical research, and continue to play a vital role in today's transnational community of artists whose work reflects Grotowski's enduring influence. Grounding her inquiry in her embodied research and on-going collaboration with these artists, Magnat explores the interrelation of creativity, embodiment, agency, and spirituality within their performing and teaching. Building on current debates in performance studies, experimental ethnography, Indigenous research, global gender studies, and ecocriticism, the author maps out interconnections between these women's distinct artistic practices across the boundaries that once delineated Grotowski's theatrical and post-theatrical experiments.

Much of the existing research on parental involvement and higher education choice examines the difference between the working class and the middle class, but little literature looks at different factions within the social classes. This book discusses higher education choice in China, particularly through the examination of social issues such as social stratification, parental involvement, and gender and educational inequality. Drawing from an empirical study based on Bourdieu’s theory, the book explores both inter-class and intra-class differences in China, providing an insight into how social class differences influence a number of issues, including: educational equality the role parents, especially mothers, play in higher education decision-making the relationship between traditional cultural norms gendered relationships within Chinese families. The sociology of higher education choices are derived through feedback from various sources, including both parents and students themselves. The book will be key reading for postgraduates and researchers in the fields of sociology, sociology of education, Chinese studies and Asian studies.
