Over the last 18 years, there have been many advances in the field of intraoperative monitoring. This new edition of Neurophysiology in Neurosurgery: A Modern Approach provides updates on the original techniques, as well as other more recent methodologies that may either prove beneficial or are commonly used in neuromonitoring. The purpose of this book is to describe the integration of neuromonitoring with surgical procedures. Each methodology is discussed in detail as well as chapters describing how those methodologies are applied to multiple surgical procedures and the evidence used to support those uses. The second edition features a surgical procedure section, which focuses on specific surgical procedures and the type of monitoring used during these procedures. The original chapters have been updated, expanded, and the structure modified to ensure the book is beneficial to both physiologists and surgeons. This book is written for neurosurgeons, neurophysiologists, neurologists, anesthesiologists, interventional neuroradiologists, orthopedic surgeons, and plastic surgeons. Provides a valuable educational tool that describes the theoretical and practical aspects of intraoperative monitoring through example Presents in-depth descriptions of the most advanced techniques in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and mapping Features a surgical procedures section that focuses on specific surgical procedures and the type of monitoring used during these procedures

“Practical Handbook of Neurosurgery” invites readers to take part in a journey through the vast field of neurosurgery, in the company of internationally renowned experts. At a time when the discipline is experiencing a (detrimental) tendency to segment into various subfields and scatter in the process, it can be worthwhile to collect a number of practical lessons gleaned from experienced and leading neurosurgeons. The book also aims to present numerous important figures in the neurosurgical community, with a brief overview of the vitae and main contributions for each. We must confess that we were sad that some of the most active members were unable to participate, likely due to time constraints. We are however fortunate that the majority were able to take part. As such, though not exhaustive, the book does represent an anthology of contemporary neurosurgeons. From the preface: At the very beginning of the project, our intention was to make a “poetbook”. But month after month it became obvious that the work would be much more expansive; ultimately we produced three volumes. Nevertheless we hope that all the three volumes together will remain easily accessible and a daily companion. The pocket has to be more like a travel bag! We would like to thank all of the contributors; they have sacrficed their valuable time to deliver sound and critical views, and above all useful guidelines.

Hardbound. This volume contains papers from the 6th International Evoked Potential Symposium (6th IEPS) held in Okazaki, Japan where the organization provided a forum for intensive exchange of state-of-the-art information on basic as well as clinical studies and future directions of Human Neurophysiology. Discussions included new research fields such as Evoked Magnetic Fields, Event-related Fields and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. As a result of many excellent contributions from scientists with multi-disciplinary backgrounds, a number of papers which could not be included in the Supplement to Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology due to space limitation, have been compiled into this publication. High levels of scientific discussions on all aspects of Human Neurophysiology including Evoked Potentials and Event-related Potentialsare the highlights of this book.

The Audiologist's Handbook of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring is a comprehensive and practical guide on cranial nerve intraoperative monitoring for audiology students and audiologists. The author shares his expertise gained from years of experience in the operating room with other audiologists and health care providers. The handbook was written with the student, fellow and relatively novice monitoring clinician in mind. However, individuals beyond a beginner level can also benefit from this book, which is illustrated with cases and appropriate figures to guide the learning and reviewing of intraoperative monitoring applications. The topics will also be of assistance and interest to other health care providers seeking information about intraoperative monitoring--specifically training IOM technologists and otolaryngology or neurosurgery residents and fellows. The initial chapters of the handbook introduce the reader to basic tenants of electromyography, evoked potential recording, and neuroanatomy. The following chapters detail intraoperative monitoring for seven different surgical procedures most commonly encountered by audiologists. The last two chapters focus on considerations for establishing a neuromonitoring program, including five specific protocols that could be used step-by-step in the operating room to set up and conduct neuromonitoring for a surgical procedure. In addition to this comprehensive review of intraoperative monitoring, readers will benefit from the videos illustrating neurophysiological events occurring during surgical procedures.

Part of the Oxford Textbooks in Clinical Neurology series, the Oxford Textbook of Clinical Neurophysiology includes sections that provide a summary of the basic science underlying neurophysiological techniques, a description of the techniques themselves, including normal values, and a description of the use of the techniques in clinical situations. Much of diagnostic neurophysiology is essentially pattern recognition which is illustrated throughout the text using audio and video examples. Divided into four key sections, this book begins with the scientific basis of clinical neurophysiology (Section 1) before exploring specific techniques including Electromyography, Intracranial EEG recordings, and Magnetoencephalography (Section 2). The final two sections explore clinical aspects of both the peripheral nervous system (Section 3) and the central nervous system (Section 4).

Clinical Neurophysiology is aimed at bedside clinical application of neurophysiological tests, with emphasis on clinical problem solving. Highly illustrated format including line diagrams, clinical photographs, CT scan and MRI pictures with corresponding neurophysiological findings is a special feature of this book. Clinical Neurophysiology is written by clinicians for fellow clinicians. This book will be useful to all those ordering, conducting or interpreting electrodiagnostic tests, especially students and clinicians in the areas of neurology, neurosurgery, and pediatrics. The exposition is systematically organized into the following three parts: Nerve Conduction: It discusses the basis of electrodiagnostic signals and their measurements. The techniques of performing nerve conduction tests of various nerves have been illustrated with a series of simple line diagrams. Electromyography: It deals with the basis of EMG signals, their recording and interpretation. The application of myography in various myopathies and neurogenic disorders has been discussed in detail. A review of single fiber electromyography is included. Evoked Potentials: This covers visual, brainstem, somatosensory and motor evoked potentials. New to this Edition Three chapters: Electrodiagnosis in Pediatric Practice, Cognitive Evoked Potential, and Role of Clinical Neurophysiology in Prognosis of Neuromuscular Disorders. Updation of all chapters in the light of recent advances in genetics, immunology, molecular diagnosis, and neurophysiology. Extensive revision of Electromyography, Clinical Application of Electromyography and Nerve Conduction, and Repetitive Nerve Stimulation. Many additional illustrations highlighting the clinical applications of various tests.
