On My Own sends the refreshingly positive, and supportive, message that being alone is not a sign of failure but can be an empowering and liberating experience. Society can be cruel in its assessment of a woman alone, regarding her as defective or deserving of pity. Similar pressures cause women to be ashamed of losing the status of mother, wife or girlfriend, and to dread the prospect of 'going it alone'. But, as the author of this inspiring book points out, being on your own can be a vital, intensely creative experience in which you can find your own voice and live a fulfilling life. The case histories and positive view of On My Own will resonate with every woman, young and old, since it touches on a sensitive nerve shared by women all over the world.

My Own Winter Sun BY TESS NEIS The fame and fortune that went with success had a price. For Erik Robson, quintessential English heartthrob, it was boredom. He was sick of the screaming fans and the flashing cameras of the paparazzi that never failed to trail him wherever he went. He was tired of the attention that was always attached to anything he said or did. All he wanted was to restore some semblance of normality and order in his life. As fate would have it, he met Tamiko who turned out to be just the breath of fresh air that Erik so needed in his convoluted world. But to many people, Tamiko was either an unwelcomed distraction or a fierce competition. Either way, she was not good for Erik's career. Could the people around Erik be right? For wasn't Tamiko herself running away from her own demons?

Designed for personal growth, this collection of readings by beloved recovery author Karen Casey inspires readers to invest in themselves again by addressing the feelings of desperation and frustration at the core of codependency. Shepherds After My Own Heart is a full-length academic treatment of the theme of the shepherd/pastor throughout the whole of scripture. It comprises a detailed study of Ancient Near Eastern understandings of this powerful metaphor, its uses and development in the Old Testament and its employment by the apostolic writers to describe the messianic significance of Jesus Christ, both in his earthly ministry and in his ascended and apocalyptic Lordship over church and world. In doing so, it articulates key elements of a biblical theology of pastoral ministry and leadership.

My Own Affairs As the eldest daughter of a great man and a great King, whose magnificent intelligence has enriched his people, I owe nothing but misfortune to my royal origin. Ever since I was born I have suffered and been deceived. I have idealized Life too much. In the evening of my days I do not wish to remain under the cloud of the false impression which is now prevalent concerning me. Without desiring to allude too much to the past, and to retrace the road of my Calvary, I should like at least to borrow a few pages from my memories and reflections, inspired by events which have destroyed thrones in whose proximity I once lived. The Emperor of Austria, the German Emperor, the Tsar of Bulgaria were all familiar figures to me. Driven to Munich by the War, then to Budapest, taken prisoner for a brief space by Hungarian Bolshevists, I have survived the European tempest, and I have seen all those who disowned and crushed me, beaten and punished. And I trembled every day for my poor Belgium, so strong in her courage and her travail, but so unjust to me—oh no, not the people—the good people are naturally heroic and indefatigable. I refer to certain of their leaders, who have been misled on my account, and who are also, perhaps, too fond of money. Unjust themselves, they all equally violated justice by illicit interests which had the appearance of legality, as well as by the false attitude which appeared merely to be forgetfulness, but which was actually ingratitude. My father has not yet had a monument erected to him in the country which he esteemed so highly; his Government has remembered the follies of his old age rather than its privileges, and his memory has suffered accordingly. But what is past is past. My memory remains faithfully and affectionately attached to my native land; my sole thought is to love and honour her. It is of Belgium that I wish to speak before passing on to the Courts of Vienna, Berlin, Munich and Sofia, and to the many doings which these names recall, certain of which deserve better knowledge and consideration.

I Am My Own Wife is the winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. From the Obie Award-winning author of Quills comes this acclaimed one-man show, which explores the astonishing true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. A transvestite and celebrated antiques dealer who successfully navigated the two most oppressive regimes of the past century-the Nazis and the Communists--while openly gay and defiantly in drag, von Mahlsdorf was both hailed as a cultural hero and accused of colluding with the Stasi. In an attempt to discern the truth about Charlotte, Doug Wright has written "at once a vivid portrait of Germany in the second half of the twentieth century, a morally complex tale about what it can take to be a survivor, and an intriguing meditation on everything from the obsession with collecting to the passage of time" (Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times).

Ballet aficionados and aspiring performers of all ages will want to join Ringer behind the scenes as she shares her journey from student to star and candidly discusses both her struggle with an eating disorder and the media storm that erupted after the Times review. An unusually upbeat account of life on the stage, Dancing Through It is also a coming-of-age story and an inspiring memoir of faith and of triumph over the body issues that torment all too many women and men.

Once a taboo subject, victims of rape and molestation were left without a voice with nowhere to turn and no one to help them. In Take a Walk in My Shoes, author B. J. Parker shares her personal story of being raped and molested by her stepfather at a young age. She exposes the controversial topic of molestation, its long-term adverse effects on interpersonal relationships, its role in promoting self-destructive behaviors, and the need to find control. In this inspirational memoir, Parker, now fifty-three years old, comes to terms with her early abuse and tells about taking the crucial steps needed to find her way back. Take a Walk in My Shoes narrates Parkers story and how she adopted a life of alcohol and drugs to ease the constant emotional pain and how she chose to be homeless rather than live in a dwelling that had everything, including her abuser. Her story follows her journey through childhood and as a runaway teenager, a high school dropout, and a single mother. Take a Walk in My Shoes tells how she overcame the stigma of abuse by sharing the message that successes are possible for each and every victim. Parker explains how to embrace life, believe in yourself, dig deep within your soul, and hold tight to your dreams.

First published in 1981, this book concerns itself with the different ways in which money is used, the relationships which then arise, and the institutions concerned in maintaining its various functions. Thomas Crump examines the emergence of institutions with familiar and distinctive monetary roles: the state, the market and the banking system. However, other uses of money - such as for gambling or the payment of fines - are also taken into account, in an exhaustive, encyclopedic treatment of the subject, which extends far beyond the range of conventional treatises on money.
