Chloe Thomas is going to the prom. Of course, she doesn't have a date, she needs a dress, and she's the last person anyone expects to see there. But her two oldest friends asked her to go, and she said yes. Right away things start to fall apart. Laura and Jace are too busy with their own preparations to help Chloe, her “real” friends think she's insane, and her parents are so excited that she can't even be in the same room with them. Why on earth did she agree to do this? With drama, humor, and a touch of prom magic, Blake Nelson delivers a story as memorable as prom itself.

All Amber wants is a little bit of love. Her mum has never been the caring type, even before she moved to California, got remarried and had a personality transplant. But Amber’s hoping that spending the summer with her can change all that. And then there’s Kyle, the most American person Amber’s ever met. She can’t help liking him. But can he really be interested in her? Even with best friends Evie and Lottie’s advice, Amber’s finding love is hard. Is it worth the fight? “I'm a big Holly Bourne fan and this is my favourite yet. She writes with such humour and great honesty, with wonderfully relatable characters. It's also refreshing to see feminism highlighted in such a positive and relevant way for teenagers.” - Fiona Noble, The Bookseller ”Bourne talks about feminism so openly and truthfully in her books and if you ever doubted the intelligence, ability or passion of teenage girls read her books and you never will again.” - Muchbooks reader review on Guardian Children's Books ”Written with humour and warmth, Amber's story perfectly captures the emotional rollercoaster that is love: embracing all its joy and pain, whether it be for family, friends or a gorgeous boy. A really satisfying page turner.” - BookTrust ”Emotive and thought provoking this searingly honest book deals with the biggest life lesson of all - nobody's perfect.” - South Wales Daily Post ”Holly Bourne truly is the Queen of YA!” - Humaira Kauser, age 17, for LoveReading4Kids ”Holly Bourne is hugely popular with the young adult audience. The second instalment in her Normal series tells Amber's story of first love, friendship and addiction.” - The Sunday Express ”Holly Bourne’s new novel demonstrates that with the right female friends, and a decent supply of cheesy snacks, a girl can get through anything... Well-written and thoughtful, this has a thoroughly authentic twenty-first century teen voice and lightens serious issues with humour.” - LoveReading4Kids ”When I received this book I let out a squeal... I really love this series.” - Lucy the Reader "Hysterical" - Mslexia "The story is equal parts hilarious and heart-wrenching... I cannot get over how many times I snorted out loud whilst reading this book. You’ll have to read it to see for yourself" - Fable & Table “[Holly Bourne’s] writing style keeps me hooked, makes me feel things and genuinely makes me think hard about important issues. I cannot recommend her novels highly enough and I am on a mission to read them all!” - Adventures of a Teenage Bookworm

For over seventeen years, Ive been living in secrecy, hiding in the shadows, alone in the world, until now. I lost my parents on the planet that they used to call home. Hope and justice represent the symbol N on the chest of the gear that I wear to save a city called Tampa, Florida, from the evil villains who dare to destroy the world and the universe around it. Many times in my adult life, I have had what I would call an "awake out-of-body experience." During these times, I was peeking in at my life in a dream state; thinking this cannot be my life. I found myself asking the questions of what happened to the child who outsmarted the world and what happened to the teen who had all the answers and confidence to boot, and the young adult who never settled for can't. Well, somewhere along the way, the only thing left of who I was once was, were just shreds of an almost non-existent life. Now, don't get me wrong, there were some good times along the way, but it certainly was not always smooth sailing. But what came later in life was no comparison to the early years. Not that long ago, my life was filled with disappointment, brokenness, worry, anxiety, and fear. I survived breakups and breakdowns, sadness and pain, grief and loss beyond description, all of which led to a one-way ticket to Depression Central. Getting off the road to depression was very difficult for me, but there is no job too hard for God. If you can relate to the paralyzing despair that I went through, then please know that I fellowship with you and understand the grip depression and anxiety can have on your life. However, I want you to know that your destination does not have to be a one-way ticket to the land of despair, instead, your journey can bring you to a place of joy and peace if you simply trust and believe in God.

Best shows us that, while the prom is often trivialized, most kids take the prom seriously. The prom is a space where kids work through their understanding of authority, social class, gender norms, and multicultural schooling. Proms are more than just pictures and puffed sleeves--they are a mythic part of youth culture and, for better or worse, will always be a night to remember.

Let Elissa Stein and Daniel Mailliard take you back to a time you may not want to remember, but one you could never forget. It's high time one of America's most widespread of adolescent social rituals got the literary treatment: in this book is a no-holds-barred collection of stories that reminds us only too vividly of the most important, angst-filled, and (potentially) romantic evening of our young lives. Not just a collection of personal testimonials, Tales from the Prom also tackles proms in the news, prom fashions, proms in the movies--in short, everything the uninitiated needs to know, and everything the prom survivor wants to reminisce about. From comedian Quinta Brunson comes a deeply personal and funny collection of essays featuring anecdotes about trying to make it when you're broke, overcoming self-doubt and depression, and how she's used humor to navigate her career in unusual directions. Quinta Brunson is a master of viral Internet content: without any traditional background in media, her humorous videos were the first to break through on Instagram's platform, receiving millions of views. From there, Brunson's wryly observant POV attracted the attention of BuzzFeed's motion picture development department, leading her to produce viral videos there about topics like interracial dating, millennial malaise, and seeing your ex in public. Now, Brunson is bringing her comedic chops to the page in She Memes Well, an earnest, laugh-out-loud collection about her weird road to Internet notoriety. In her debut essay collection, Quinta applies her trademark humor and heart to discuss what it was like to go from student loan debt-broke to "halfway recognizable--'don't I know you somewhere?'" level-of-fame. With anecdotes that range from the funny and zany--like her experience trying to find her signature hairstyle--to more grounded material about living with depression, Brunson's voice is entirely authentic and eminently readable. Perfect for fans of Phoebe Robinson's You Can't Touch My Hair, Samantha Irby's We Are Never Meeting in Real Life, and Issa Rae's The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, She Memes Well will charm and entertain a growing, engaged audience.

Programming Reality: Perspectives on English-Canadian Television, the first anthology dedicated to analyses of Canadian television content, is a collection of original, interdisciplinary articles, combining textual analysis and political economy of communications. It explores the television that has thrived in the Canadian regulatory and cultural context: namely, programs that straddle the border between reality and fiction or even blur it. The conceptual basis of this collection is the hybrid nature of television fare: the widely theorized notion that all mediations of reality involve fiction in the form of narrative or symbolic shaping. Each of the contributions here is a reminder, too, of the significant relationship of television to nation building in Canada—to the imaginative work involved in thinking through the relations that constitute nations, citizens, and communities. The collection focuses on English-language Canadian television because the imperatives guiding its texts are markedly different from those pertaining to their French-lanugage counterparts. The collection, therefore, develops a nuance of perspective on the cultural and political economic specificities that inform the imaginative work of television production for English Canada.
