These poems are about my life experience. They are a glimpse into my journey of reclaiming my life. I began writing poetry as a way of releasing stress, loneliness, and sadness. When I moved to Calgary I had no one to talked to. I felt very alone and out of place, and I had no idea what I was going to do with myself. All of my friends were in Montreal, along with everything I had ever owned. I only had five hundred dollars in my wallet, and two suitcases full of toys, clothes, and important documents."

Secrets rule Lana’s life. Her father’s death brought some out into the open, but she has a few of her own: 1) she’s been married to Blake for nearly a year—and trying to get a divorce for most of that time. 2) A moment of emotional weakness and too much champagne ended with her in her husband’s arms—and now she’s pregnant. Blake hasn’t thought of another woman since they first met, though she believes otherwise. When Lana’s hotel-magnate father offers him the job of regional manager—and an office in the hotel Lana would be managing, Blake jumps at it. Keeping her attention when it’s split between her sisters, the ins and outs of running a resort, and the ‘ghost’ who’s been haunting the building isn’t easy. Learning about the baby convinces him to redouble his efforts though—he isn’t going to give up without a fight, and when someone comes after Lana, the stakes are raised again.

I broke up my marriage to the only woman I've ever loved because she deserved so much better than all the filthy things I wanted to say and do to her.But it turns out when I get access to a world where I can get what I want without drowning in guilt when it's over, I find my wife already there. Not only do I get schooled in the fact that it's not what I want that's bad, only how I've been going about getting it, but I also get a second shot with the love of my life. I'd do anything to get Pressly back; I'm just not sure anything I can offer will ever be enough.

Have you ever wondered where the abundant life Scripture promises is, and how you seem to have missed it? Do you ever catch yourself saying, “Those were the best years of my life?” A failed relationship, a health crisis, a job loss, the death of a loved one—all can cause us to hide out, go numb, give up. Before we even know it, we’re simply coping with life instead of living it to the fullest. It happens to most of us at one point or another. For author and Bible study teacher Denise Hildreth Jones, it happened in the wake of her devastating divorce. But she fought desperately to reclaim her God-designed heart, and now, in her transparent, authentic style, Denise challenges you to do the same. Sharing stories from her own journey and others she’s walked alongside, Denise will help you identify ways you’ve given your heart to “lesser gods” like performance, people-pleasing, and control, and how to find your way back to God’s design for your life—to laughing, loving, and living life to the fullest.

Herman Sinaiko is renowned for his gifts as a guide to exploring and appreciating the humanities. This book brings to general readers Sinaiko’s thoughts on, and invitations to read or reread, a wide selection of major literary and philosophical works—from ancient Greek to Chinese to modern. Taking a conversational approach, he deals with the perennial questions that thinking people have always raised, and investigates how works of great art may provide answers to these questions. Sinaiko reestablishes the notion that there is a canon of great works from the great traditions of the world and argues for the existence of permanent standards of excellence. He rejects most contemporary critical views of classical literature and philosophy, including those of "experts" who seek to monopolize access to great works, academics whose extreme emphasis on historical context disallows any current relevance, and theorists whose lenses distort with personal bias rather than sharpening focus on the works they discuss. Sinaiko reclaims the canon for all of us, opening up discussion on texts ranging from Plato to Tolstoy, Confucius to Mary Shelley, and encouraging each reader to listen and respond to the rich diversity of powerful views on the human condition that such great works offer.

Lawrence J. Lincoln had no idea how a near-forgotten childhood event had impacted his adult relationships and busy medical career. His life changed dramatically as he gradually discovered that injured or neglected children often take revenge on the least dangerous person in their universe: themselves. As a result, we banish the most vulnerable, frightened, and tender parts of ourselves so that we are not hurt again. In Reclaiming Banished Voices, Larry fills the pages with stories and teachings that illustrate the consequences of this sabotage to our personal lives, our relationships, and society. With intellectual clarity and emotional poignancy, he also offers a technique to reclaim our full selves and live a connected and fulfilling life. Drawing on his years of leading workshops with Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, as well as his vast experience as an infectious disease and hospice clinician, Lincoln provides multiple examples of the transformative power of compassion and love. Part memoir, part treatise on the value of the externalization of emotions, and part roadmap for those searching for elusive contentment, this book will help you reclaim voices from the past, become a better parent, partner or friend, and live a fully engaged life.

Have activists taken the bumper-sticker adage "Think Globally, Act Locally" too literally? Randy Shaw argues that they have, with destructive consequences for America. Since the 1970s, activist participation in national struggles has steadily given way to a nearly exclusive focus on local issues. America's political and corporate elite has succeeded in controlling the national agenda, while their adversaries—the citizen activists and organizations who spent decades building federal programs to reflect the country's progressive ideals—increasingly bypass national fights. The result has been not only the dismantling of hard-won federal programs but also the sabotaging of local agendas and community instituions by decisions made in the national arena. Shaw urges activists and their organizations to implement a "new national activism" by channeling energy from closely knit local groups into broader causes. Such activism enables locally oriented activists to shape America's future and work on national fights without traveling to Washington, D.C., but instead working in their own backyards. Focusing on the David and Goliath struggle between Nike and grassroots activists critical of the company's overseas labor practices, Shaw shows how national activism can rewrite the supposedly ironclad rules of the global economy by ensuring fair wages and decent living standards for workers at home and abroad. Similarly, the recent struggles for stronger clean air standards and new federal budget priorities demonstrate the potential grassroots national activism to overcome the corporate and moneyed interests that increasingly dictate America's future. Reclaiming America's final section describes how community-based nonprofit organizations, the media, and the Internet are critical resources for building national activism. Shaw declares that community-based groups can and must combine their service work with national grassroots advocacy. He also describes how activists can use public relations to win attention in today's sprawling media environment, and he details the movement-building potential of e-mail. All these resources are essential for activists and their organizations to reclaim America's progressive ideals.

"Foreword: William Dembski, PhD." Darwinism is a 150-year-old icon that has been propped up by unproven suppositions. The scientific discoveries of the last few decades are now kicking out the props. Dr. Kenneth Poppe is convinced the icon is ready to topple. Providing extensive scientific evidence of Darwinism's failures, this career biology instructor uses enlightening analogies and examples to explain the theory's problems: blind-luck assembly of the first cell mathematical "im"probabilities the laws of thermodynamics hypothetical sudden mutations biased mind-sets Spiced with humor and helpful graphics, this popularly targeted text shows readers that--in regard to objections to evolution--"the science is truly there." "A superior resource for students, parents, and private- or public-school educators."
