Ancient monuments built for the gods ... Structures modern engineering can’t replicate ... Legends science can’t refute ... Secrets hidden from civilisation will be revealed! … and the world is now fighting back In 2056, there are over 9 billion souls inhabiting the Earth. But in 2057...? Sixteen-year-old Rhyllien Ellis disappeared after witnessing her father’s brutal murder. Thirty-seven years pass before she awakens, unchanged, in a crystal cave deep within the Amazon. Haunted by strange visions, she’s burdened with an insurmountable task: to save as many lives as possible with a cache of powerful crystals. Spreading across the world, a mysterious sickness has killed thousands. Any delay means more deaths. In a world run by corporations, Rhyllien surviving the sickness means she knows of a remedy. Or she is the cure? Either way, she’s worth billions... Alive. Or dead. “Lively characters and fast-paced action set in a corporate-run future: a dynamic series kicks off with a bang!” Peter J Aldin, author of Third Contact & Eventide From the author: The Death Wave Chronicles is a blend of mythology and ‘weird science’, fringe science and pseudoscience. Throughout the storyline — more so in some novels than others — I will touch on subjects such as Gaia myth, Earth chakras, the power of crystals, ley lines/earth energy grid, druidism, UFO’s, aliens ... even Atlantis. I hope you enjoy the read.

Author of the acclaimed historical novel, The Scholar's Challenge, Julian Bauer now turns his unique writing abilities to two contemporary novellas, The Lawyer's Relic and A Grandfather's Dilemma. The first novella asks how an agnostic lawyer would react if he found a bloody napkin wrapped as a Christmas gift. Would he throw it away even if he found a card attached describing it as the burial face cloth of Jesus Christ? How would he react if supposedly miraculous events occurred? Would his legal skills play a factor in his search for an answer to what it all means? The second novella puts a elderly man in a predicament. He faces death from old age and has settled all his worldly affairs when a middle-aged woman and her adult son show up on his doorstep. She claims the young man is his grandson. Is he? Moreover, she tells the old man that her son has major character flaws needing someone of his ability to redeem him. He refuses to take on the responsibility. She insists. In any case, how could an unwilling young man be changed? Is it possible that age can bring with it weapons of unusual teaching abilities? Heartbreaking and enlightening, these powerful stories engage the reader in questions of faith and integrity. In writing these novellas, Julian utilizes all the investigative and managerial tools he gained in his career as CEO of his own company, executive in the Federal government, and national president of a nonprofit organization. He skillfully weaves two riveting tales around the benefits of trust and virtue.

July, 1100. Jerusalem lies ransacked. Amidst the chaos, an English knight is entrusted with a valuable religious relic: a fragment of the True Cross, allegedly stained with the blood of Christ. The relic is said to be cursed: anyone who touches it will meet an untimely and gruesome end. Several decades later, the Cross turns up in the possession of a dealer, robbed and murdered en route to Glastonbury. Investigating the death, Bernard Knight's protagonist, Crowner John learns of its dark history. In Oxford in 1269, the discovery of a decapitated monk leads Ian Morson's academic sleuth William Falconer to uncover a link to the relic. In 1323, in Exeter, Michael Jecks' Sir Baldwin has reason to suspect its involvement in at least five violent deaths. Thirty years later, several suspicious deaths occur in Cambridge - and, once again, the tainted relic has a crucial part to play. Finally, it's despatched to London, where Philip Gooden's Nick Revill will determine its ultimate fate.

A rollicking good yarn that mixes detective fiction with Indiana Jones-style adventure. When Professor Lloyd Marsden is found murdered in the Museum of Victoria, Special Detective Sam Diamond is assigned to catch the killer. Thrown into a world of obsessive collectors, strange poisons, funerary rites and ancient artefacts, Sam's photographic memory and cryptic crossword skills are invaluable tools in her investigation. But when archaeologist Dr Maggie Tremaine whisks her halfway round the world in pursuit of the truth, Sam finds way more questions than answers. From Australia to Egypt to Peru Sam and Maggie hunt down the clues to a strange pact and a legendary relic. This novel was originally written for ICOM '98, the International Council of Museums' triennial conference, hosted by the Museum of Victoria in 1998. The ICOM '98 committee had the novel idea of promoting the prestigious conference, and its host city Melbourne, by commissioning a crime novel set in the museum world. Under its original title, Stolen Property, Golden Relic was serialised on the Internet - one chapter a month - from February to September 1998 on the ICOM '98 homepage. Golden Relic was launched at the Melbourne Convention Centre on the opening night of the ICOM '98 conference by Magistrate Jennifer Coate and Senator John Button.

Tracing the history of St. Antoninus' cult and burial from the time of his death in 1459 until his remains were moved to their final resting place in 1589, this interdisciplinary study demonstrates that the saint's relic cult was a key element of Florence's sacred cityscape. The works of art created in his honor, as well as the rituals practiced at his fifteenth- and sixteenth-century places of burial, advertised Antoninus' saintly power and persona to the people who depended upon his intercessory abilities to negotiate life's challenges. Drawing on a rich variety of contemporary visual, literary, and archival sources, this volume explores the ways in which shifting political, familial, and ecclesiastical aims and agendas shaped the ways in which St. Antoninus' holiness was broadcast to those who visited his burial church. Author Sally Cornelison foregrounds the visual splendor of the St. Antoninus Chapel, which was designed, built, and decorated by Medici court artist Giambologna and his collaborators between 1579 and 1591. Her research sheds new light on the artist, whose secular and mythological sculptures have received far more scholarly attention than his religious works. Cornelison draws on social and religious history, patronage and gender studies, and art historical and anthropological inquiries into the functions and meanings of images, relics, and ritual performance, to interpret how they activated St. Antoninus' burial sites and defined them in ways that held multivalent meanings for a broad audience of viewers and devotees. Among the objects for which she provides visual and contextual analyses are a banner from the saint's first tomb, early printed and painted images, and the sculptures, frescoes, panel paintings, and embroidered textiles made for the present St. Antoninus Chapel.

This book is a study of the complex nature of colonial and missionary power in Portuguese India. Written as a historical ethnography, it explores the evolving shape of a series of Catholic festivals that took place throughout the duration of Portuguese colonial rule in Goa (1510–1961), and for which the centrepiece was the 'incorrupt' corpse of São Francisco Xavier (1506–52), a Spanish Basque Jesuit missionary-turned-saint. Using distinct genres of source materials produced over the long duree of Portuguese colonialism, the book documents the historical and visual transformation of Xavier’s corporeal ritualisation in death through six events staged at critical junctures between 1554 and 1961. Xavier’s very mutability as a religious, political and cultural symbol in Portuguese India will also suggest his continuing role as a symbol of Goa’s shared past (for both Catholics and Hindus) and in shaping Goa’s culturally distinct representation within the larger Indian nation-state.

Beneath the Underground, where Charles Mingus's underdog still resides, Vernon Frazer has been building a reputation as a writer's writer. In Relic's Reunions, Edsel Relic, a highschool outcast turned performance poet, receives a telephone call from his unrequited teenage love, who invites him to attend his 25th class reunion -- just as he's reeling from a mid-life diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome. Relic's debate over attending careens from narrative to stream-of-consciousness to TV script in a mixed-media mind-movie while his supporting cast of jazz musicians, high school jocks, patriotic principals, early-60's hipsters -- and a cameo appearance by the most trusted man in America, Walter Cronkite -- scrawls a jazz-fueled American Graffiti on the wall of the America that brought us the sixties.
