Prophetic Oracles of Salvation in the Old Testament is a comprehensive and innovative assessment of these often ignored or misunderstood canonical texts. Claus Westermann shows that these oracles occur in distinct forms and make up a coherent tradition. He goes on to demonstrate that these texts, often percieved only as a message of judgement and doom, in fact proclaim hope and deliverance as well.

Traces the role of Judaism and the Jewish people in God's plan for the salvtion of mankind, from Abraham through the Second Coming, as revealed by the Catholic faith and by a thoughtful examination of history. It will give both Jews and Christians a deeper understanding of Judaism, both as a religion in itself and as a central component of salvation history. The book examines the unique and central role Judaism plays in the destiny of the world. It documents that throughout history attacks on Jews and Judasim have been rooted, not in Christianity, but in the most anti-Christian of forces. Areas addressed in depth include: the Messianic prophecies in Jewish Scripture; the very anti-Christian roots of Nazi anti-Semitism; the links between Nazism and Arab anti-Semitism; the theological insights of well-known Jewish converts; and the role of the Jews in the Second Coming.

Introduction Everything that God hands down to mankind in Christ is in salvation. Well, I hear people say, "I am saved" without them knowing what it really is to be saved. And at the end, though not intentionally, many receive God's grace in vain (2 Corinthians 6:1). To receive a thing in vain is to trivialize it or not maximizing it. It is true that people can't maximize what they really do not understand and salvation is one major part of the life of believers that is least understood. People are saved and you can be sure of it that they are saved indeed. However, when you see some of those who are saved, you wonder if they are really saved. This is not because you expect too much from them or even yourself, but because there seems to be no proof of salvation. Perhaps you wonder why and how you do certain things that are not expected of a child of God and you are disappointed in yourself or in someone you think should be better. I have had people who asked me if salvation is really enough and that what else can they do to live the kind of life that God wants them to live like the young rich man who came to Jesus in Matthew 19:16-22. Many, like Paul, blurt out is despair that who will deliver them from their wretched bodies; what they really want to do is not what they end up doing and what they hate is just the one they do spontaneously (Romans 7:14-25). My dear, people are saved and really, that is all that is required. The only challenge is that we really do not understand salvation and that is why we fall easy preys to things that want to own us. I'm indeed grateful for the privilege to write this book in which salvation is explained in a way that whoever reads and applies its teaching will be saved indeed. So, sit tight, keep an open heart and have a lovely ride through this book. And when you are through with it, recommend it to everybody you come in touch with. I know that others will appreciate you for helping them to be saved indeed.

Today, many churches teach that once a person believes and trusts in Jesus Christ, their Salvation is assured. They can know with certainty that they will go to heaven.no matter what. The churches further teach that the individual has no part to play in their salvation. God does it all. These teachings are not Biblical. The Bible teaches that no person can know their ultimate destiny. The best one can do is to live a life of demonstrated faith and hope they will make it to heaven. Indeed, a person does have a part to play in their destiny, and by their choices they can stay on the pathway that leads to salvation or they can depart from it. This book clarifies the Biblical path to Salvation, articulates a Biblical argument that refutes the 'assurance of salvation' doctrine and reveals the spiritual dangers that are produced by this teaching. Harding Hedgpeth is a professional test pilot and the holder of 9 aviation world records set in the B-1 Bomber. He has no formal theological training. He does not belong to any formal church. As he characterizes himself, he is a disciple of Jesus Christ, cleverly disguised as a test pilot. Harding was raised as a Presbyterian, married a Catholic and didn't realize that the Bible was God's truth until 1987 when he was 40 years old. He has immersed himself in the study of God's Word ever since. The study of God's Word led him to realize that today's churches are leading their parishioners astray in some important areas. One of those areas is the doctrine of 'the assurance of salvation.' Accordingly, Harding felt a strong compulsion to write this book. Though a relatively short book, it has taken four years to research and one year to write.

The sermon as crafted by the early New England preachers was the most prominent literary form of its day, yet the earliest Puritan texts have as a rule been available only in rare-book collections. This anthology of sermons of the first generation of preachers fills a serious gap in American literature. The preachers collected here, the most widely published of their time, were among the eighty or more who emigrated to Massachusetts Bay during the 1630s. They are John Cotton of Boston, Thomas Shepard of Cambridge, and Thomas Hooker of Hartford, the three foremost "lights of the western churches," and two eminent colleagues, Peter Bulkeley of Concord and John Davenport, first of New Haven and later of Boston. The selections are chosen to be representative of the lengthy works from which they are drawn, to reflect the major concerns and styles of the preachers' work as a whole, and to demonstrate the genre of the sermon as developed by the early American Puritans. Not only does this anthology represent an important contribution to literary history, but the sermons also illustrate a doctrine uniquely elaborated in this period—a consistent and emphatic narrative, mythlike in its repetition and heroics, of the progress of the soul from a state of nature to a state of salvation. This theme may be seen as a three-stage-development, although individual sermons may vary. These stages—preparation, vocation, and regeneration—determine the order of the selections. The editors' introductory material supplies a comprehensive and thorough discussion of the early New England sermons, concentrating on their role, history, structure, style, and subject matter. A separate essay on the texts of the sermons describes the relationship between the early printed versions and their form as delivered in the pulpit. The introduction preceding each selection presents original research on the historical circumstances of the preaching and publication of the work from which the sermon is drawn. The editors have also provided brief biographies of the preacfiers represented here, an annotated list of recommended background reading, and the most exhaustive checklist available of authoritative editions of the sermons of these five preachers. This book will be useful to colonial specialists as well as to students of early American literature, religion, and history. The texts are critically edited for readability, with modernized spelling and annotations of unfamiliar phrases and allusions.

Salvation from Cinema offers something new to the burgeoning field of "religion and film": the religious significance of film technique. Discussing the history of both cinematic devices and film theory, Crystal Downing argues that attention to the material medium echoes Christian doctrine about the materiality of Christ’s body as the medium of salvation. Downing cites Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu perspectives on film in order to compare and clarify the significance of medium within the frameworks of multiple traditions. This book will be useful to professors and students interested in the relationship between religion and film.

This study offers an in-depth examination of Porphyrian soteriology, or the concept of the salvation of the soul, in the thought of Porphyry of Tyre, whose significance for late antique thought is immense. Porphyry's concept of salvation is important for an understanding of those cataclysmic forces, not always theological, that helped convert the Roman Empire from paganism to Christianity. Porphyry, a disciple of Plotinus, was the last and greatest anti-Christian writer to vehemently attack the Church before the Constantinian revolution. His contribution to the pagan-Christian debate on universalism can thus shed light on the failure of paganism and the triumph of Christianity in late antiquity. In a broader historical and cultural context this study will address some of the issues central to the debate on universalism, in which Porphyry was passionately involved and which was becoming increasingly significant during the unprecedented series of economic, cultural, political, and military crises of the third century. As the author will argue, Porphyry may have failed to find one way of salvation for all humanity, he nonetheless arrived a hierarchical soteriology, something natural for a Neoplatonist, which resulted in an integrative religious and philosophical system. His system is examined in the context of other developing ideologies of universalism, during a period of unprecedented imperial crises, which were used by the emperors as an agent of political and religious unification. Christianity finally triumphed over its competitors owing to its being perceived to be the only universal salvation cult that was capable of bringing about this unification. In short, it won due to its unique universalist soteriology. By examining a rival to Christianity's concept of universal salvation, this book will be valuable to students and scholars of ancient philosophy, patristics, church history, and late antiquity.

This work is written with a law enforcement officer?s investigative mindset and from the perspective of a prisoner.I discovered through a survey of Christian bookstores that no books were exclusively on or about repentance, but most only touched on the topic. The only author who had anything to say about repentance beyond a mere mention was Charles G. Finney in Finney?s Systematic Theology. This 600-page work transformed my thinking and influenced my investigation. This book discusses spiritual leadership without bashing any spiritual leader. It points out carnality without castigating any particular ministry or denomination. Hundreds of illustrations will familiarize the reader with revelations about repentance and carnality. These illustrations, like parables, contain revolutionary truths that are true to Scripture, reason, and life, so that Repentance: The Doctrine of God may become one harmonious revelation!Warning: As you read this book, you will encounter deep-seated carnality residing within the blackened depths of your soul, and it will not want to be exposed! But take heart?Almighty God will accompany you on this journey for the complete regeneration of your soul.

Twenty years ago the Hallelujah Band spread itself far and wide, but soon spent itself like a straw fire. Then arose the Salvation Army, doing the same kind of work, and indulging in the same vagaries. These were imitations of the antics of the cruder forms of Methodism. Even the all-night meetings of the Whitechapel Salvationists, ten years ago, were faint copies of earlier Methodist gatherings, especially of those in Cornwall, which were described by the Rev. Richard Polwhele. “At. St. Agnes,” said this writer, “the Society stays up the whole night, when girls of twelve and fourteen years of age ran about the streets, calling out that they are possessed.” At Probus “the preacher at a late hour of the night, after all but the higher classes left the room, would order the candles to be put out, and the saints fall down and kneel on their naked knees; when he would go round and thrust his hand under every knee to feel if it were bare.” The Salvationists never went so far as this. Freaks of such description are left, in this age, to the followers of King Solomon in the Brighton Glory Hole. But a friend of ours, who visited an all-night Salvation meeting at Whitechapel in 1882, told us that the light was very dim, the voices were low, cheeks came perilously close in prayer, and at one moment the proceedings threatened to develope into a thoroughgoing love-feast.

The idea of "salvation" tends to be interpreted as an exclusively religious category. The author of this essay believes that philosophy, the quintessence of human thinking, possesses a salvific power, as it offers the possibility of broadening the horizons of humanity, leading us out of the oppressive limits of our "hic et nunc." However, philosophical salvation needs to be found in time and space. The edification of a society based upon the ideal of solidarity, in which history may be meaningful for everyone, is its preeminent manifestation.

The world has reached a stage in which value systems are trampled underfoot or supplanted by moral relativism. At best we are guided by the law rather than our consciences. Therefore, evil practices which escape the law are condoned. Almost everything is subtly covered in deception, and those skillful in deception win the race. The only way by which humanity can escape deception and stop killing each other and preserve the universe is to accept salvation in Jesus Christ and live by biblical disposition. Elder Ing. Prof. Amoakoh Gyasi-Agyei digs deep into how the three parts of humanityspirit, soul and bodycan be redisposed to the original masterpiece of God to bring the world back to decorum. He uses the Holy Bible to answer many human dilemmas caused by rebellion against God, including: how to reach the supreme God; the origin of deception and its antidote; predestination; sexuality; humans as instruments of praiseworthy acts versus the instrument of evil; heaven and hell; the origin and eternal destina-tion of the human spirit, soul and body; blessings associated with lifestyle of biblical disposition versus curses with worldliness; and the origin and the fate of the current universe. This book is a must-read by everybody.

This collection focusses upon the history and theology of sin and salvation in reformation and post-reformation England. Exploring their complex social and cultural constructions, it underlines how sin and salvation were not only great religious constants, but also constantly evolving in order to survive in the rapidly transforming religious landscape of the reformation. Drawing upon a range of disciplinary perspectives - historical, theological, literary, and material/art-historical - to both reveal and explain the complexity of the concepts of sin and salvation, the volume further illuminates a subject central to the nature and success of the Reformation itself.
