Bestselling novelist Amanda Prowse knew how to resolve a fictional family crisis. But then her son came to her with a real one... Josiah was nineteen with the world at his feet when things changed. Without warning, the new university student's mental health deteriorated to the point that he planned his own death. His mother, bestselling author Amanda Prowse, found herself grappling for ways to help him, with no clear sense of where that could be found. This is the book they wish had been there for them during those dark times. Josiah's situation is not unusual: the statistics on student mental health are terrifying. And he was not the only one suffering; his family was also hijacked by his illness, watching him struggle and fearing the day he might succeed in taking his life. In this book, Josiah and Amanda hope to give a voice to those who suffer, and to show them that help can be found. It is Josiah's raw, at times bleak, sometimes humorous, but always honest account of what it is like to live with depression. It is Amanda's heart-rending account of her pain at watching him suffer, speaking from the heart about a mother's love for her child. For anyone with depression and anyone who loves someone with depression, Amanda and Josiah have a clear message--you are not alone, and there is hope.

From the Amazon Charts bestselling author of An American Princess comes the true story of an unconventional family divided by war and prejudice during WWII. When they fell in love in 1928, Rika and Waldemar could not have been more different. She was a thirty-seven-year-old Dutch-born mother, estranged from her husband. The child they have together, brown skinned and blue eyed, brings the couple great joy yet raises some eyebrows. Until the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands explodes their promising life. What unfolds is more than the astonishing story of a love that prevailed over convention. It's also the quest of a young boy. Through the cruelty of World War II, he will fight for a connection between his father's South American birthplace and his mother's European traditions. Lost and displaced for much of his life, but with a legacy of resilience in his blood, he will struggle to find his place in the world. When Orla is handed an envelope by her father, she is perplexed by what she finds - a photograph of her parents, taken the summer she was born. Her heavily expectant mother, unusually, is smiling. Between her parents stands a teenage boy, her mother's arm lovingly around him. Orla later asks her father about the boy's identity, but he refuses to be drawn. Her mother's mood is low again and he doesn't want her upset. So begins the daughter's investigation, back to the summer of 1983, and the story of a young English boy on holidays in rural Ireland. As the circle closes on a web of tragedy and deceit, the truth that emerges will impact on all their lives. The Boy Between is an expertly crafted, suspenseful and ultimately hopeful story of family secrets, a fateful summer, and the long-buried events of a distant past.

The Zodiac Killer aside, no unsolved criminal case in American history has quite gripped investigators nationwide like the Boy in the Box Case of Philadelphia, 1957.It is a story of sadness, teeming with hope. Originally seen as a local, solvable case, it has grown to include its own Website and appearances on America's Most Wanted, 48 Hours, Cold Case, and the like. Still the case is unsolved, and as Detective Tom Augustine recently said, “The case just won't go away.” On Monday, February 25, 1957, a young Caucasian boy, estimated to be between the ages of three and five, was found nude along Susquehanna Road, an illegal dumping ground for unwanted trash, located just some eight miles north of downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the City of Brotherly Love. The boy's body was partially covered with a recently cleaned, rust-colored, Indian-style blanket remnant over his loin and was placed inside a relatively pristine J.C. Penney bassinet box. Ironically, the discarded box was in better shape than the boy. What the Boy in the Box Case boils down to is quite simple. So much effort was put into the case because the victim is the epitome of innocence. As Lt. Kenneth Coluzzi, who once headed the Special Investigations Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Division, put it, “It's about giving the boy an identity and a name.” This came to be a monumental task for all involved. So began to build this story, the story of a boy, a box, and a lot of love, on February 25, 1957.

The Boy From Ashfield is a vivid insight into the complex world of a young Catholic boy from Ashfield, Sydney and his transition to manhood. The story elicits his intense struggle to survive in a bigoted, orthodox Catholic family of eleven children and an overburdened mother. Deprived of love and privilege young Adrian is subjected to alcohol fuelled violence from older bully boy brothers and opportunistic sexual abuse by a trusted religious teacher. Bubbling constantly are the psychological and emotional traumas associated with battling the forces of evil, disadvantage and undiagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The story unfolds (often humourously) the ethos and social values of the Catholic broader community in which he lived through the 1950's to 1990. The powerful mentoring by an insightful teacher provided Adrian the wherewithal to choose between his often negative errant ways or otherwise. He eventually finds love with a wife who becomes the innocent victim of his violence.

Matt wears a black suit every day. No, not because his mom died - although she did, and it sucks. But he wears the suit for his gig at the local funeral home, which pays way better than the Cluck Bucket, and he needs the income since his dad can't handle the bills (or anything, really) on his own. So while Dad's snagging bottles of whiskey, Matt's snagging fifteen bucks an hour. Not bad. But everything else? Not good. Then Matt meets Lovey. Crazy name, and she's been through more crazy stuff than he can imagine. Yet Lovey never cries. She's tough. Really tough. Tough in the way Matt wishes he could be. Which is maybe why he's drawn to her, and definitely why he can't seem to shake her. Because there's nothing more hopeful than finding a person who understands your loneliness - and who can maybe even help take it away.

In the forests above timberline across North America lives a ferocious carnivore that hunts as a solitary predator, seldom seen because of its stealthy and cunning character. The heavy-bodied and short legged Wolverine is known for its legendary refusal to back down in a fight. With strength, shrewdness and fearlessness it often challenges animals much larger than itself.Listening to the legends and the rare stories of encounters with this fearsome creature can cause the hair on the back of your neck to bristle from fear. But is the Wolverine simply a lonely predator with unprecedented ferocity or is there a mysterious and hidden character to his cunningness that is blended with gentleness, compassion and a need to belong? The Boy and the Wolverine offers a hidden side of this feared and mysterious creature and the unusual and yet intimate relationship that grows between Predator and Boy. The deep friendship that develops between these two unlikely characters suggests that even in the midst of fierceness and timidity is a longing inherent in all creatures for love, kindness, and compassion that overcomes impossible obstacles and creates a mysterious bond. The Boy and the Wolverine reveals how love and compassion in a world that is filled with fear, loneliness and hopelessness, is more powerful than any fear that we might have of the unknown that often grips us with legendary ferocity or disabling timidity.

PREFACE. THE Author of this very practical treatise on Scotch Loch - Fishing desires clearly that it may be of use to all who had it. He does not pretend to have written anything new, but to have attempted to put what he has to say in as readable a form as possible. Everything in the way of the history and habits of fish has been studiously avoided, and technicalities have been used as sparingly as possible. The writing of this book has afforded him pleasure in his leisure moments, and that pleasure would be much increased if he knew that the perusal of it would create any bond of sympathy between himself and the angling community in general. This section is interleaved with blank shects for the readers notes. The Author need hardly say that any suggestions addressed to the case of the publishers, will meet with consideration in a future edition. We do not pretend to write or enlarge upon a new subject. Much has been said and written-and well said and written too on the art of fishing but loch-fishing has been rather looked upon as a second-rate performance, and to dispel this idea is one of the objects for which this present treatise has been written. Far be it from us to say anything against fishing, lawfully practised in any form but many pent up in our large towns will bear us out when me say that, on the whole, a days loch-fishing is the most convenient. One great matter is, that the loch-fisher is depend- ent on nothing but enough wind to curl the water, -and on a large loch it is very seldom that a dead calm prevails all day, -and can make his arrangements for a day, weeks beforehand whereas the stream- fisher is dependent for a good take on the state of the water and however pleasant and easy it may be for one living near the banks of a good trout stream or river, it is quite another matter to arrange for a days river-fishing, if one is looking forward to a holiday at a date some weeks ahead. Providence may favour the expectant angler with a good day, and the water in order but experience has taught most of us that the good days are in the minority, and that, as is the case with our rapid running streams, -such as many of our northern streams are, -the water is either too large or too small, unless, as previously remarked, you live near at hand, and can catch it at its best. A common belief in regard to loch-fishing is, that the tyro and the experienced angler have nearly the same chance in fishing, -the one from the stern and the other from the bow of the same boat. Of all the absurd beliefs as to loch-fishing, this is one of the most absurd. Try it. Give the tyro either end of the boat he likes give him a cast of ally flies he may fancy, or even a cast similar to those which a crack may be using and if he catches one for every three the other has, he may consider himself very lucky. Of course there are lochs where the fish are not abundant, and a beginner may come across as many as an older fisher but we speak of lochs where there are fish to be caught, and where each has a fair chance. Again, it is said that the boatman has as much to do with catching trout in a loch as the angler. Well, we dont deny that. In an untried loch it is necessary to have the guidance of a good boatman but the same argument holds good as to stream-fishing...
