NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Includes bonus material From the creator of the acclaimed Alex Delaware series comes a tour de force standalone novel that illustrates perfectly why “Jonathan Kellerman has justly earned his reputation as a master of the psychological thriller” (People). A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents’ deaths in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Grace’s harrowing past returns with a vengeance. Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Grace’s renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refuses—a decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep. An evil she thought she’d outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness she’d long ago fled. Praise for The Murderer’s Daughter “[A] taut thriller . . . with the richness and resonance of literary fiction.”—Washington Independent Review of Books “A stunning page-turner with a truly fascinating femme fatale at its fast-beating heart . . . packed with ingenious, razor-sharp plotting, mesmerizing mind games and nail-biting suspense.”—Yorkshire Evening Post “A tight, fast-paced narrative [with] a brilliant, kick-ass heroine.”—Library Journal “Kellerman doesn’t let off-the-charts genius Grace become one-dimensional. Her backstory and challenge to fit in, even into adulthood, are an engaging part of this satisfying mystery, which, though billed as a stand-alone, could certainly make a spin-off series.”—Booklist “An amazing tale of survival and adaptability in the face of neglect and murder.”—RT Book Reviews Praise for Jonathan Kellerman “Kellerman’s psychology skills and dark imagination are a potent literary mix.”—Los Angeles Times “Kellerman doesn’t just write psychological thrillers—he owns the genre.”—Detroit Free Press

Warning This is an independent addition to The Murderer's Daughter, meant to enhance your experience of the original book. If you have not yet bought the original copy, make sure to purchase it before buying this unofficial summary from aBookaDay. Introduction What exactly shapes us into the person we become? And what might have happened differently? These are the questions that lie at the heart of Jonathan Kellerman's latest novel featuring the intriguing and multi-faceted Dr. Grace Blades. This book takes a hard look at the shattering effects of trauma, and what it takes for people to rebuild themselves. Grace was five years old when she watched her parents die in a gruesome murder-suicide. Nearly thirty years later, she has become widely known as an expert psychologist specializing in the treatment of those she calls the Haunted: victims of horrifying trauma. Grace is respected as compassionate and dedicated healer, but she has a secret side - a dark addiction to danger and adrenaline. Grace believes that both her clandestine habits and tormented past are well-concealed - until one day her personal and professional lives collide. Suddenly Grace finds herself being hunted by someone she never expected to see again. Struggling to stay one step ahead of her pursuers, Grace must dig deep into her own haunted memories to understand what is happening and why. What she manages to uncover is terrifying: an evil is rising, and she may be the only one who can see it coming. There are two main narrative paths in this novel - the backstory of Grace growing up, and the murder mystery unfolding in the present. The book is full of twists, turns and thrilling subversions of thriller tropes. However, readers may find the back-and-forth nature of the plot confusing, and the two narratives do not complement each other as strongly as they could. Nonetheless, while The Murderer's Daughter might have its shortcomings as a standalone novel, it is flawless as an introduction to the captivating Grace Blades. Readers will be left wanting more of her. Available on PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet or Kindle device. (c) 2015 All Rights Reserved

Lulu and Merry's childhood was never ideal, but on the day before Lulu's tenth birthday their father propels them into a nightmare. He's always hungered for the love of the girls' self-obsessed mother; after she throws him out, their troubles turn deadly. Lulu had been warned not let her father in, but when he shows up drunk, he's impossible to ignore. He bullies his way past Lulu, who then listens in horror as her parents struggle. She runs for help, but discovers upon her return that he's murdered her mother, stabbed her five-year-old sister, Merry, and tried, unsuccessfully, to kill himself. Lulu and Merry are effectively orphaned by their mother's death and father's imprisonment. The girls' relatives refuse to care for them and abandon them to a terrifying group home. Even as they plot to be taken in by a well-to-do family, they come to learn they'll never really belong anywhere or to anyone—that all they have to hold onto is each other. For thirty years, the sisters try to make sense of what happened. Their imprisoned father is a specter in both their lives, shadowing every choice they make. One spends her life pretending he's dead, while the other feels compelled--by fear, by duty--to keep him close. Both dread the day his attempts to win parole may meet with success. A beautifully written, compulsively readable debut, Randy Susan Meyers's The Murderer's Daughters is a testament to the power of family and the ties that bind us together and tear us apart.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jonathan Kellerman has been universally hailed as the master of psychological suspense, and the blockbuster new thriller featuring Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis confirms his status as today’s preeminent practitioner of saber-sharp storytelling. Psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware meets beautiful and emotionally fragile TV actress Zelda Chase when called upon to evaluate her five-year-old son, Ovid. Years later, Alex is unexpectedly reunited with Zelda when she is involuntarily committed after a bizarre psychotic episode. Shortly after Zelda’s release, an already sad situation turns tragic when she is discovered dead on the grounds of a palatial Bel Air estate. Having experienced more than enough of L.A.’s dark side to recognize the scent of evil, Alex turns to his friend LAPD Lieutenant Milo Sturgis for help in finding out who ended Zelda’s broken life. At the same time, Alex is caught up in another quest: the search for Zelda’s missing son. And when other victims vanish from the same upscale neighborhood, worry turns to terror. As Alex struggles to piece together the brief rise and steep fall of a gorgeous, talented actress, he and Milo unveil shattered dreams, the corruption of a family, and a grotesque betrayal of innocence. With each devastating revelation and damning clue, Alex’s brilliant mind is challenged as never before—and his determination grows to see a killer caged and the truth set free. From Amazon’s Top 100 Books in Spanish sold in the USA, France, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and Spain “After the success of The Circle, with tens of thousands of copies sold, Mario Escobar hits another home run with this adventure thriller set against the backdrop of tax havens, dirty money, and the millions of people fighting to survive.” Comments about Caribbean Island from Amazon readers: “I read this practically in one big gulp, and that’s not my MO. The frenetic pace of the story grabs you. It’s more than just a mystery—it oozes a disconcerting aura of suspense from start to finish. Like The Circle, there’s this feeling of being on pins and needles till the very end, and then comes the bang-up surprise ending. The high-octane action demands a sense of “long-suffering reading,” in that you can’t figure out the truth, which, of course, shatters the ego of a well-seasoned reader. The primary story line (in my opinion) about the durability of feelings between a couple is incredibly interesting (it reminds me of “it is not the durability of love but rather the durability of affection that holds a couple together” by K. Axelos I saw on EPS this weekend, for the way an extreme situation can draw us together when we thought we had drifted apart... I’m quoting from memory: “Despite a lifetime together they did not know each other”); and so is the storyline of a daughter dependent on the reference point of her parents. There are also lots of demons, a heavy presence of Evil in this book. The hurricane in the plot line to me is like the perfect storm in the interior life of the main characters. Life is complicated and almost always contradictory. We all face fears and longings, and here we read about how these unfold for one particular group in a gut-wrenching situation, when they’re pushed to the limit. For sure, just like with The Circle, when I finished reading it I left it open to go back and reread, not to understand it better but just to discover more shades and hues of a very engrossing story. Hats off to the author.” Luzv2read “I bought this book to have something to read on an upcoming flight to Hawaii, but when it finished downloading I thought I’d give it a quick look...big mistake. I couldn’t stop reading and finished it way before my trip even started!” Elisabeth Argueta “I really loved this book! Once you start, you can’t stop. And I did not see that ending coming. It leaves you with really mixed feelings.” Christian M. “Killer plot. Mario Escobar truly has us trapped in this novel, to the very end when we crash hard against everything we thought would be the finale.” Luis “With a hurricane bearing down on an island in the Caribbean, one man and his wife must catch a killer and save their daughter from the murderer’s clutches.” The plot of the novel Caribbean Island London policeman Edward Rod, after a bout of depression, accepts a post as chief inspector on a Caribbean island. His wife Margaret is about to walk out on him and take their daughter back to England, but a series of unexpected crimes requires them to stay on the island as the most virulent hurricane in two decades is brewing off the coast. Out of the blue, Edward’s daughter is kidnapped by the dangerous serial killer supposedly behind all the recent crimes. Edward and Margaret race against the clock to save their daughter, but time runs out, and the crimes keep piling up. Muna is an Iraqi Christian refugee working as the island’s scuba instructor, but she’s hiding a terrible secret. Samia, a luxury prostitute, seems to be the only witness who can identify the murderer. Who is really behind the deaths of several millionaires on one of the world’s most loaded tax havens? Why is money leaking out of their accounts? Can Edward save his daughter in the middle of a category 5 hurricane?
