When a career-ending injury left elite athlete and professional football player Lewis Howes out of work and living on his sister's couch, he decided he needed to make a change for the better. He started by reaching out to people he admired, searching for mentors, and applying his past coaches' advice from sports to life off the field. Lewis did more than bounce back: He built a multimillion-dollar online business and is now a sought-after business coach, speaker, and podcast host. In the New York Times bestseller The School of Greatness, Howes shares the essential tips and habits he gathered in interviewing "the greats" on his wildly popular podcast of the same name. In discussion with people like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Pencils of Promise CEO Adam Braun, Howes figured out that greatness is unearthed and cultivated from within. The masters of greatness are not successful because they got lucky or are innately more talented, but because they applied specific habits and tools to embrace and overcome adversity in their lives. A framework for personal development, The School of Greatness gives you the tools, knowledge, and actionable resources you need to reach your potential. Howes anchors each chapter with a specific lesson he culled from his greatness "professors" and his own experiences to teach you how to create a vision, develop hustle, and use dedication, mindfulness, joy, and love to reach goals. His lessons and practical exercises prove that anyone is capable of achieving success and that we can all strive for greatness in our everyday lives.

Chi Sun Rhee’s work of four volumes, The Phantom of Greatness, is a masterpiece of twentieth century epic fiction. It consists of Book One (The Phantom of Greatness), Book Two (The Way to Greatness), Book Three (The Devastation to Greatness), and Book Four (The Triumph to Greatness). In the latter part of the nineteen century, Japan planned to rule Korea. Takahashi Genji assassinates Korean Queen Min and her royal guards on October 8, 1895. Finally, on August 22, 1910, Korea is annexed to Japan. The Koreans constantly fight against the Japanese rule for their independence. Mija’s father is arrested, tortured, and imprisoned for years. Consequently, he becomes partially disabled. By accident, a Japanese scientific genius Ichiro discovers the Korean girl prodigy Mija, whose dream is to be a great writer. Her gifted talent ignites Ichiro’s love. Fathers of both sides reject their love affair. However, their love continues because there is no national boundary in knowledge and love. Seeing his people’s suffering, Mija’s brother Kwyunsoo attempts to assassinate Japanese Governor General in 1943. All of Mija’s family is arrested by the Japanese police. Byunghong, who has loved Mija since childhood, sends Mija to the Korean Women’s Volunteer Army to save her life with the help of Japanese commander of the military police. In the Philippines, astonishingly Mija meets Ichiro at the Lucban Military Base. They get married. Ichiro helps Mija escape from the camp, killing a Japanese sentinel. In the jungle, Mija saves the Philippine guerilla commander from a Japanese attack and becomes a guerilla member. During the fierce guerilla battle, Mija delivers Ichiro’s baby. Mr. Manuel Roxas rescues Mija from an approaching execution. In Manila, during the bloody fighting, a hand grenade explodes nearby and Ichiro falls to the ground. After the war, Mija leaves to unite with her son and waits to go to her motherland Korea.

In this ambitious book, Kevin M. F. Platt focuses on a cruel paradox central to Russian history: that the price of progress has so often been the traumatic suffering of society at the hands of the state. The reigns of Ivan IV (the Terrible) and Peter the Great are the most vivid exemplars of this phenomenon in the pre-Soviet period. Both rulers have been alternately lionized for great achievements and despised for the extraordinary violence of their reigns. In many accounts, the balance of praise and condemnation remains unresolved; often the violence is simply repressed. Platt explores historical and cultural representations of the two rulers from the early nineteenth century to the present, as they shaped and served the changing dictates of Russian political life. Throughout, he shows how past representations exerted pressure on subsequent attempts to evaluate these liminal figures. In ever-changing and often counterposed treatments of the two, Russians have debated the relationship between greatness and terror in Russian political practice, while wrestling with the fact that the nation’s collective selfhood has seemingly been forged only through shared, often self-inflicted trauma. Platt investigates the work of all the major historians, from Karamzin to the present, who wrote on Ivan and Peter. Yet he casts his net widely, and "historians" of the two tsars include poets, novelists, composers, and painters, giants of the opera stage, Party hacks, filmmakers, and Stalin himself. To this day the contradictory legacies of Ivan and Peter burden any attempt to come to terms with the nature of political power—past, present, future—in Russia.

Standing between you and the man you CAN be is one thing: The Mask of Masculinity. Lewis Howes grew up as an athlete. He was a two-sport All-American, played almost every sport in high school, and went on to play football professionally. Howes then transferred his competitive nature from sports to business, building his podcast, “The School of Greatness,” into a global phenomenon and becoming successful beyond his wildest dreams. But his whole identity was built on misguided beliefs about what “masculinity” was: dangerous, false ideas learned from teammates and coaches in locker rooms and stereotypes in the media. Like so many men, Howes grew up to be angry, frustrated, and always chasing something that was never enough. At 30 years old, outwardly thriving but unfulfilled inside, Howes began a personal journey to find inner peace and to uncover the many masks that men—young and old—wear: by asking for advice from some of the world’s best psychologists, doctors, and household names like Tony Robbins, Alanis Morissette, and Ray Lewis. That journey created this book—a must read for every man, and for every woman who loves a man. In The Mask of Masculinity (a USA Today bestseller), Howes exposes the ultimate emptiness of the Material Mask, the man who chases wealth above all things; the cowering vulnerability that hides behind the Joker and Stoic Masks of men who never show real emotion; and the destructiveness of the Invincible and Aggressive Masks worn by men who take insane risks or can never back down from a fight. He teaches men how to break through the walls that hold them back and shows women how they can better understand the men in their lives. It’s not easy, but if you want to love, be loved, and live a great life, then it’s an odyssey of self-discovery that all modern men must make.

Aspirations of Greatness Are you Living the Illusion of Success? Many successful people find themselves rudderless, and joyless once they reach midlife. Their race for success â often defined as the accumulation of wealth and power â has dulled their sense of purpose. It's undermined their happiness and crippled their relationships with their families. The passion of youth exhausted, many midlife achievers run their lives on a treadmill of activity, haunted by unresolved baggage from their past, constantly trying to out-pace their fears. Often having no friends or mentors to guide them, many seek to escape rather than face their issues around money, identity, sexuality, and love. Most are open to spiritual connection, but don't know how or where to begin. They feel alone and scared. Jim Warner writes with the authority of one who has been there and worked his way through to clarity and a rediscovery of self and purpose. In Aspirations of Greatness he shares the inspiring life stories of nine high-profile people. These business and professional leaders typify the disillusionment of people in midlife who appear to "have it all," yet yearn for purpose, connection, inner peace â along with a renewed energy and "aliveness." Like many others, they have attained affluence and power, but confess to little sense of mission or meaning in their lives. These nine stories, backed by research conducted by Warner in intimate retreat settings with thousands of other "successful" midlife leaders, amplify the piercing questions of people in midlife: Who am I outside of my vocation? What is my destiny? What is the role of money in my life? How do I achieve greater intimacy and communion with my spouse, family, friends and God? The book introduces several models for navigating the treacherous rapids of midlife, with principles that apply to anyone who feels lost, lonely, or unloved. His book is a blueprint for positive change and offers uplifting, practical guidelines for living out your innate genius with gratitude, wisdom and serenity.
