Based on linguistic and thematic links in the narrative, The Turning Point in the Gospel of Mark argues that the twin pericopae of Peter's confession (8:27-38) and the Transfiguration (9:2-13) together function as the turning point of the Gospel and serve in a Janus-like manner enabling the reader to see the author's main focus: the identity of Jesus and the significance of that reality for his disciples. Peter's confession of Jesus as Messiah faces backward toward the Prologue (1:1-13) and functions as a mid-course conclusion. The declaration by God on the mountain faces forward and foreshadows the end-course conclusion (14:61-62; 15:39; Son of God). Jesus, in response, teaches that the Son of Man must suffer and die before being raised from the dead (8:31). Christologically, the images of Messiah, Son of Man, and Son of God converge and present Jesus, the crucified, as king, ushering in the kingdom of God in power (9:1 acting as the key swivel between the twin pericopae). When one is confronted with this Jesus, though there remains something elusive about him and the kingdom of God in the narrative, the only wise decision (after calculating the costs, 8:34-38) is to follow.

This book contains 45 chapters.Think about accomplishing only the goals you have set. If you focus on more than one goal at once, your chances of success are slim. When you set only one goal, then your brain tries to fulfill that goal in every way. In this state your mind becomes focused on a single goal. Now imagine that you are standing in a floating boat. You see two islands simultaneously. Someone tells you that on one island there is a box full of gold and on another island there is a silver box. So what will you do?Will you pick up those boxes from both islands simultaneously?”No ”You will pick one box first and then the second one. That is, you cannot accomplish two goals simultaneously. First you have to complete one goal, then the other goal.So keep one goal at a time. Focus your attention on only one goal at a time.If you want to be successful, you have to remain focused.

In England, there was a wealthy young Englishman, who was sent to the most prestigious schools. Upon graduation, his parents expected him to become a politician, like his father, but he had other ideas. He wanted to go to America, find a job and see what life was like for the average person. In New Jersey, there was a young woman who started working at a young age to help support her family. Her parents loved and nurtured her and her brother; they brought up their children to respect other people and live up to their high moral standards. The young Englishman followed his dream and went to the United States. He worked in many jobs, taking anything that would keep putting food on his table. He was challenged by his new lifestyle. Not long afterwards, he met the woman from New Jersey. This story is about their lives: their love, their happiness, their sorrow and their laughter.

The manuscript, "The Turning Point, When the Pleaser of Man Becomes a Servant of the Lord," is a call for believers to stand up to core values and teachings of Christianity in the face of challenges and not to submit to the ways of the world. In the book I address the current state of affairs, where people have submitted to the demands and expectations of others to shape the way they live, most often against the virtues taught by Jesus Christ and how it parallels with the struggles in the lives of the men and women of our Biblical times. I address some of the issues we face on a daily basis such as; daily pressures, premarital sex, and the various life roles that we must play. In the latter part of the manuscript I share personal testimonies about my life struggles because of the workings of the devil and how I found peace and joy through the salvation of Jesus Christ. And I close with exhorting everyone to check their own lives and live up to the ways of righteousness.

This book proposes a method for calculating China’s debt based on a quantitative econometric analysis. This is conducted by measuring the relationship between China’s debt size and economic growth. The conclusion that is reached is as follows: China’s current debt has already exceeded the inflection point, and that means that it is now having an adverse effect on its economic performance. The book also focuses on China's debt problems as a whole, highlighting debt issues faced by different entities and industries, as well as the ratio and structure of the virtual and real economies. The contents are presented in three major principles: theory, oriented, data, and oriented policy.

If the furious debate around the state of healthcare in the US has led to any consensus, it’s that the system should be delivering better quality for less cost than it does. The truth is that our healthcare system is a sprawling mix of competing interests in which those of the patient are valued least. Too much discussion has devolved to simplistic scapegoating, and too few comprehensive, constructive solutions have been offered. It’s time for a fresh vision. In straightforward language, Healthcare at a Turning Point: A Roadmap for Change outlines a new market-based business model that aligns industry financing mechanisms with the goals of prevention, improved quality, and reduced costs. Drawing on more than 25 years of cross-industry consulting experience, the authors: Articulate a market-based vision of the industry Examine past efforts to reduce costs, their failures and their unanticipated consequences Spotlight perverse incentives that distort the way the healthcare system operates and make it less than it could be Present concrete recommendations for change within the healthcare delivery, insurance, pharmaceutical, device and diagnostics sectors Explain the changes that employers, consumers and policy makers can make to create a more customer-responsive system that delivers more value For all the uncertainty in the current environment, there is also a rare opportunity to fundamentally redefine who wins in this market. Healthcare at a Turning Point provides guidance to executives ready for that contest as well as a roadmap for change.

In every person's life, there comes a moment in time when circumstances or events require decisions and responses that greatly determine the future. This book has no design to be another volume on leadership techniques. Rather, it is a candid exploration of those unexpected turns birthed out of the experience of being confronted with a reversal of circumstances in the life of an individual. Frankly, it is a study about the drama of life. The intention of the author is to give a sincere and straightforward examination of why turnabouts often get high-jacked and fail to live up to people's expectations. Even more, individuals will find a plea for courage and faith when things do not occur as they once envisioned they would. Consequently, it is a clarion call for courage to go further than some would desire, but also a caution to impatient leaders to be watchful of their own intentions to push a change further than would be wise. In the end, some leaders must be willing to consider a more contemplative life built on valuing people above their own ideological mindset. Dr. Wallace R. Pratt is an administrator, minister, teacher, and writer. He lives in Salem, Oregon and has been married thirty-eight years to his wonderful wife Judy. They are blessed with two daughters, two great son-in-laws and five grandchildren. Dr. Pratt serves as a regional supervisor in the Northwest for his church organization, while also serving as an adjunct professor for Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. His leadership experience has included thirty-three years of pastoral ministry and approximately eighteen years of teaching in sixteen nations. He has been serving on the Doctrine and Polity Committee of his church organization for fourteen years and presently holds the position of chairman for this international body.

Many people in the Church today have the idea that young-earth creationism is a fairly recent invention, popularized by fundamentalist Christians in the mid-20th century. Is this view correct? In fact, scholar Terry Mortenson has done fascinating original research on this subject in England, and documents that several leading, pre-Darwin scholars and scientists, known as scriptural geologists did not believe in long ages for the earth. Mortenson sheds light on the following: Before Darwin, what did the Church believe about the age of the earth? Why did it believe this way? What was the controversy that rocked the Church in 19th-century England? Who were the scriptural geologists? What influences did the Church contend with even before Darwin's book? What is the stance of the Church today?
